Mystery Man grinned again and winked. “See you later, Lucky.”
Lucky gaped as the man strode off, disappearing as quickly as he’d appeared. “What the fuck?”
“What’s wrong?” Elias appeared at his elbow, Maddie strapped to his chest, eyes searching the area for any threat. “You okay?”
“I don’t—” Lucky shook his head. “A strange guy just told me to take care of you. He knew my name.”
Elias squinted. “Tattoos?” He touched his neck. “Piercings?”
Lucky nodded.
Elias’s stance relaxed. “Dima Zhirkov. He’s the head guy around these parts.”
The name clicked and Lucky gasped. “The Russian who’d been battling with Israel over territory? This territory?”
Elias chuckled. “Yep. They’re family now, since Dima’s engaged to Israel’s cousin, Xavier.”
Lucky blinked. “That’s—”
“Weird.” Elias nodded. “I know.” He pressed a kiss to Lucky’s forehead. “You ready to go back?” He sniffed, nose red. “I’m freezing my balls off.”
Lucky stared at him, at the laugh lines around his mouth. That mouth Elias had used to blow the top off Lucky’s head the other day. Gray hairs decorated Elias’s temple, the sexiest thing Lucky had ever seen on any man. The way Elias used his big, strong hands to stroke Maddie’s head and pat her back. Those hands were the ones he used to kill, the same ones he used to weaken Lucky’s knees and make him beg.
This man. This man he’d married. There were so many layers and facets to him. Lucky loved them all. Loved him.
“Lucky?” Elias frowned at him
Lucky smiled and touched him, tugged on his beard. Elias watched him, blue eyes piercing. “I love you. Everything about you. Everything you are. I love you.”
Red spots appeared on Elias cheeks and his mouth opened and closed twice before he nodded, eyes searching Lucky’s face. “And I love you.”
“I want to go back,” Lucky said huskily. “Back to our home. We’ve been gone long enough.”
Elias’s eyes closed then reopened quickly. “What does that mean?”
Lucky leaned in close and brought their mouths together. “It means we’re going home, scarlet.”
Elias shuddered against him.
“Means our family comes first. Means our love comes first.” He flicked his tongue over Elias’s mouth. “It means I love you and you love me.”
Elias kissed him, deep and wet and desperate, and Lucky tried to get in closer without squishing their poor daughter.
“
Mijn schat
.”
Elias broke away just far enough to cup Lucky’s jaw with a cold hand and stare into his eyes. “You are everything.” He touched Maddie’s covered head. “You two. Everything.”
“I know.” He swiped his thumb over Elias’s wet bottom lip. “I know.”
Elias grinned. “Come. Let’s go home.”
As far as plans went, it was the best Lucky had heard in a long time.
