Step 3

As you go back down through the hole of the button toward the wrong side of the fabric, you will take your remaining thread and wrap it around and around those threads under the button to form your shank. When your shank feels stiff and secure, knot your thread on the wrong side of the fabric. Using this technique, you’ll never lose a button.
