Lying here is a one hundred year-old man
He is looking out at his motherland, land of hope
He has spent seventeen springs and autumns lying here
The tempests of the time still stir his breast
Generation after generation
bask in the effulgence of the Red Sun
May this child who is just learning to speak
take nourishment from the revolution
How can we forget, we will never forget
that the banner of Mao Zedong will always fly on high
He belongs to the world
A foreign student studying in China was in the long queue of
people waiting to go into the Hall. He was wearing a T-shirt

Page 255
bearing a picture of Chairman Mao. He said: Mao is not
China's alone, he belongs to the world.
He is not only China's sun
Mao Zedong is a star that dazzles all eyes
He is undoubtedly a giant of world stature
Shining forth in the constellation
His theories suit not only China
They express the wisdom of humanity, a treasure of civilization
His Thought is not only a weapon for revolution
for it holds out hope for the advancement of mankind
Because of this, he and his motherland
stand firm in the Orient like a giant . . . . . .
Dreaming of Chairman Mao
Gou Huaxian (doctor, No. 5 People's Hospital, Chengdu, Sichuan)
Night is so still
All the clamour of the day has disappeared
leaving only the ink-black vastness of the heavens
and the slumbering earth
I stand before the window
eyes closed
in a reverie recalling the dream I just had
for it was like a bolt of lightning piercing the cloak of darkness
