CHAPTER SIX

Trinity sat at the table on the back porch, sipping a glass of orange juice, and enjoying the feel of the sun warming her skin. It was another gorgeous day. She wondered if the weather had always been so perfect or if she was just noticing it more now because of how ridiculously happy she was. Laszlo Cstary was going to be her husband. It was hard to believe that a man like him—sexy, rich, successful, charming—would be interested in her. Well, she vowed to do anything and everything in her power to make him happy. Women like Natasha would never get their hooks into Laszlo. Trinity would make sure of it.

She glanced behind her at the sound of the sliding glass door opening. Laszlo stepped outside, fully dressed in a designer suit and shiny shoes. God, he looked good in a suit. Trinity smiled at him as he walked toward her. "Morning," she said.

Laszlo gave her a kiss. "Good morning beautiful."

She blushed. His compliments always had that effect on her. It would be nice if he'd stay home with her again today. They'd had such a great time yesterday. But she knew he had to deal with Natasha and that article in Business Weekly. Thank goodness it was Friday. He never worked on the weekends—they were reserved for her.

"So, I was thinking," he said, taking the seat next to her and reaching for a muffin. "We should have a get together tomorrow."

"What kind of get together?"

He shrugged. "I don't know, something casual, maybe a barbeque. I thought it would be nice to invite the wedding party over so everyone can get to know each other."

Trinity smiled. "I think that's a great idea." Yesterday they'd discussed the wedding a lot. Considering she didn't have any real family, other than a brother who wouldn't speak to her, and only one close friend, they'd decided to keep it small. Becky would be Trinity's maid of honor, and Laszlo's old college roommate and close friend, Dean, would be his best man. Trinity had learned that Dean was single. So was Becky. Maybe they'd hit it off.
That would be cool
, she thought.

"Good." He smiled, and then held something out to her
.

"What's that?" she asked, nodding at his hand.

"It's yours, take it."

Trinity took it and flipped it around in her hands. It was a platinum Visa card with her name on it. "Lasz…" She was at a loss for words.

"There's no limit," he said, motioning for her to sit on his lap. She did, and he wrapped his arms around her waist. "Use it for whatever you want."

Her heart raced. No one had ever done anything like this before. She wasn't sure what to say or do. What was the proper etiquette for a gift of infinite wealth?—because that's basically what it was. A credit card with no spending limit, she couldn't wrap her mind around that concept. On her own she'd barely been able to get a credit card with a five hundred dollar limit. She opened her mouth to speak, but was cut off my Laszlo.

"Uh-uh." He put his finger to her lips. "Don't even think about refusing it, love. This is one argument you will not win." He smiled, and then so did she.

"I don't know what to say." He
r words were a bit muffled from his finger still pressed to her lips. "Thank you," she whispered.

Laszlo kissed her in that slow, soft way that always made her head spin
and her heart flutter. "Get use to it, Trin. Everything I have is now yours, too."

She swallowed the lump in her throat. Not once had he mentioned a prenuptial agreement. Trinity had been waiting, anticipating that discussion. But it never came. She didn't understand why. It was the smart thing for him to do, and if he asked, she'd sign without hesitation. She wasn't marrying him for his money. Maybe she should bring it up. "Can I ask you something?"

"Of course." He was looking at her with those eyes—the ones that reached deep into her soul and caressed her, the ones that were full of so much love and desire it should be illegal. His thumb brushed across her bottom lip, and she closed her eyes momentarily, savoring the gentle touch.

Focus, Trinity, focus.
She took a deep breath. "Shouldn't I sign some sort of pre-nup or something?"

His initial response was a kiss—a long kiss with a lot of tongue and even more soft moans from both of them. Trinity felt the growing bulge in Laszlo's pants, and her body responded immediately, her pussy throbbing with need.

He broke the kiss, but kept his lips poised above hers. "Why? Are you planning to divorce me?"

"What? No, of course not." She locked gazes with him. That isn't what she'd meant to imply at all. She was honestly just trying to protect him, to let him know that she was in this because of her love for him, not his money.

"If I love you enough to share my life with you; then I love you enough to share my money, too. I told you last night, I'd give it all up to be with you if that's what I had to do. The money means nothing to me."

"It doesn't mean anything to me either," she blurted out. "I just…it's…I'm not marrying you for your money, Laszlo. I want you to know that." It was important that he knew that.

He smiled. "I've never once thought you were."

"Really?"

"Yes," he said firmly. "Now, enough talk of pre-nups. I refuse to plan for the day our marriage might end. I do, however, plan to spend every day making you smile."

"Well, you're doing a pretty good job," she said, smiling as she pressed her lips to his.

"Yeah?"

"Yeah."

"Good." He smiled again. "I've got a car and a driver on standby today. He'll take you wherever you want to go."

"You mean I actually get to leave the house today?" she teased.

"As long as you take it easy, and let me know where you're going so I don't worry."

Normally a statement like that would piss her off. After her train wreck of a relationship with Jason, she'd vowed never to get involved with another man who wanted to control her. And the statement Laszlo just made sounded exactly like something Jason had said to her early on in their relationship—before he went all controlling asshole on her. But, there was something different in Laszlo's tone of voice. It didn't feel anything like it had when Jason said it. Trinity looked Laszlo in the eyes and saw the concern in them. She knew he didn't want to control her. He simply wanted to protect her.

"I think I'm going to go see my brother." She looked away from him. "I'd really like him to be at the wedding, maybe even walk me down the aisle."

"Do you want me to go with you?"

"Thanks, but no. This is something I need to do alone. He probably won't even talk to me, but I have to try."

"Well, if he does, you should invite him to the cookout tomorrow. I'd like to meet him."

"I will." An image of her brother and Laszlo standing in this very backyard, talking, bonding, and getting along flashed in her mind. She wanted that. She wanted it so bad. For the longest time, she and her brother were inseparable. They were all each other had and now they didn't speak. It was her fault. And now it was time to try and make amends by whatever means necessary. Trinity missed her brother.

Laszlo sighed. "I have to get going."

Trinity nodded and stood. "Good luck today."

He stood and hugged her. God, she loved the feel of his arms wrapped around her. It felt safe, like home
. She knew how corny and cliché that sounded, but it was the only way to really describe how it felt to be held and loved by Laszlo. "Why don't you meet me at the office around one? We'll have lunch."

"Okay."

He gave her another kiss, and then said, "I love you, Trinity."

"I love you, Mr. Cstary," she said with a smile.

***

Trinity hadn't been to the office since before she'd been attacked. And back then, she'd simply been just another secretary who happened to be fucking the boss
. Now she was the boss's fiancé. Talk about a major difference. Her heart fluttered, not with excitement, but with nerves, and her stomach rolled over on itself. What would people think of her now? Would they regard her like Natasha had, with hate and disgust? Would they whisper behind her back after she'd left the room? Well, there was only one way to find out.

She took a deep breath and pulled open the front door. The guard sitting behind the front desk regarded her with a smile and a nod—the same way he'd always greeted the staff. So far so good, she thought as she pushed the elevators up button. The true test would be when she arrived on the top floor—the floor she used to work on. The elevator doors slid open, and she stepped inside. The ride to the top floor was much longer than she remembered. Or maybe it just felt long because her entire body was a ball of dread.

The elevator came to a stop, and Trinity stepped out. As she walked down the aisle of cubicles, people either didn't notice her or they simply smiled warmly.
No, this really isn't so bad
, she thought. Then she came upon Sarah's desk – Laszlo's executive assistant and the only real friend Trinity had made while working there.

"Oh my gosh, Trinity!" Sarah came around from behind her desk and gave Trinity a big hug.

Trinity laughed. "It's good to see you, too, Sarah."

"Let me get a look at you." Sarah took a step back. "Wow! You're positively radiant. Glowing, as my mother always said."

"Thank you." Trinity smiled, relieved that Sarah wasn't angry or upset or anything.

"Uh, excuse me, Sarah, but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with these reports," said a young woman with bright red hair and even brighter red lips.

"Just put them on my desk," Sarah said. "Trinity, this is Jenna. She took over your job when you left. Jenna this is Trinity Collins, Mr. Cstary's fiancé."

"Oh, nice to meet you." Jenna offered her hand.

"Likewise." Trinity shook Jenna's hand.

Jenna walked away, and Sarah rolled her eye
s. "She's no you, that’s for sure," Sarah said with a chuckle. "Are you sure you don't want your old job back? I hear you've got an in with the boss."

Trinity laughed. Getting her job back hadn't occurred to her. She figured it would be inappropriate to be Laszlo's secretary when she was going to be his wife.

"Oh, relax, I'm just teasing." Sarah laughed and patted Trinity's arm. "Mr. Cstary told me that he was expecting you this afternoon. You can go right in."

"Thanks, Sarah." Trinity turned and headed toward Laszlo's office, but stopped when she heard Sarah's voice behind her.

"Don't be a stranger, Trin."

Trinity smiled to herself. She really did miss the talks she and Sarah used to have. In fact, if it weren't for Sarah getting sick, and then recommending that Trinity go on that business trip with Laszlo, she wouldn't be pregnant or engaged to the man of her dreams right now. She turned around. "Sarah, would you like to be a bridesmaid—"

"Yes!"

They both laughed. "Okay, we're having a cookout at the house tomorrow afternoon for the wedding party. You'll come?"

"I wouldn't miss it," Sarah said with a broad smile.

Trinity nodded and made her way into Laszlo's office. He was sitting at his desk, head down, concentrating intently on something. She closed the door a little harder than necessary to get his attention. His head snapped up, a cold displeased look in his eyes, which quickly faded when he realized it was her. He smiled and her heart melted at the sight.

"Hi," she said.

"Hi yourself," he said, getting up and coming toward her. In one swift move, Laszlo wrapped his arms around her and slanted his mouth over hers. His tongue parted her lips and explored her mouth as if he owned it—which, in her mind, he did. His hands coursed down her back and landed on her ass, which he squeezed, and then yanked her tight against his body.

She noticed his erection and her body buzzed to life. Desire, hot and thick, pooled between her thighs. She wondered if they had time for a quickie. It wouldn't be the first time they'd had sex in his office. He released her lips, and she sighed. "I'm going to come see you at the office everyday if that's the welcome I get."

He chuckled. "I've missed you."

"Missed me? It's only been four hours."

"It feels like four years," he said, adjusting his hold on her.

She adored how he could make her feel so loved with just a few words. "I missed you, too."

"Did you talk to your brother?"

She shook her head. "He was at work, but he said if I come back around three, he'd sit and talk to me."

"That's great, Trin." He smiled.

Yes, it really was great considering the last time she'd tried to talk to him; he'd practically slammed the door in her face. There was still no guarantee that he would come to her wedding, or agree to give her away, but at least he was willing to talk to her. "How'd you make out with the magazine thing?"

"I have an interview with them first thing Monday morning." He released her and led her toward the couch. Once they were seated, he said, "I have a favor to ask you, Trin."

The tone of his voice gave her pause. Did he really think she'd tell him no? After everything he'd done for her, she was willing to do whatever he wanted. "Anything."
