What was the big deal teaching certain
Earthlings to control their thoughts? Some already work for you and
know of your existence.”

The big deal is Earthlings
need to evolve on their own without any outside interference from
either group because this gives us the best and purist field
programs. It is as if someone cheated on a test. Did they really
learn the material? When someone of this character enters into a
society this could directly or indirectly affect the society’s
moral compass because in effect they are a cheat. This type of
behavior can spread like a virus and it has,” explained
Serafina.

So the people your faction so greatly opposes
are called Guardians.”

Yes, and please understand
before our faction split, we were all addressed as Guardians, this
title was an honor to hold at one time. The primary responsibility
of the Guardians was to assist in maintaining order both on Tureis
and on the planets we harvest,” said
Serafina.

So my government may suspect I’m a Floater
because my body may meet the age requirement for mandatory PIC
implants and I don’t have one?” asked Spencer.

Yes, but we just need to convince the
authorities that you are not a Floater in order to prevent you from
possibly spending time in a detention center. So let us stop with
the history lesson. If anyone asks tell them the only thing you
remember was you took a vow of silence before you fell into this
coma.”

At this point, I’ll say and do
whatever you want, just get me out of this mess,” said Spencer
obediently.

Good, because I have just been
informed government agents will be here any second now. Do not say
anything unless they ask you what you remember, then only say what
I told you,” ordered Serafina.

Ok, can I ask how you were notified of this
information?”

Remotely,” said Serafina as she re-directed
the topic back to where it needed to be, “Allow them to do whatever
they want, within reason of course, and do not forget you just woke
from a coma so you are still groggy.”

What’s within reason?” asked Spencer with a
concerned look.

Two individuals in black suits
entered the room. Both were identical in height, one female, and
the other male. The female identified themselves as Federal Agents
from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, also known as ICE and
exhibited their credentials proudly. Serafina explained to one of
the agents that Spencer, or in this case “John Doe” believes he was
part of some sort of religious organization and the only thing he
remembered was taking a vow of silence. Spencer nodded his head
‘yes,’ when asked if this was true. The two agents proceeded to
scan Spencer’s fingerprints, retinal, and brainwaves all with a
small black device, about the size of a deck of cards. Once they
were finished with their scans, the other agent removed a needle
and explained this was a small tracking chip and injected it right
below Spencer’s left shoulder. After the injections the agent who
planted the chip, removed a small sample of blood. Once the ICE
agents were finished, they turned to Serafina and instructed her
that this John Doe was going to be released into her custody once
the hospital clears him, and he was to stay in her custody until
they obtained confirmation on whether he was or was not affiliated
with a religious organization. Serafina acknowledged with a simple,
“I understand.” The male agent reminded Serafina that her PIC had
been tagged, and would be registering all her movements while John
Doe was in her custody. Again, Serafina responded, “I understand.”
Once the agents were finished gathering their intelligence, they
explained the dangers of harboring a Floater, said, “Good evening,”
and left.

Wow, pleasant aren’t they?” said
Spencer.

Do not get me going,” replied
Serafina.

So now what are we going to do?
They’re tracking both of us and are going to know every step we
make.”

I do not have a PIC,” responded Serafina with
a smile.

But, I just saw them confirm it.”

What you saw is what we wanted them to see.
If you have not figured out that our technology is far greater than
yours, then you are in for a big surprise. They are going to
receive tracking data on me, it just will not be
accurate.”

How did you convince their equipment you had
a PIC?” asked Spencer.

I cannot and will not tell you
all our secrets. Now get dressed, we need to get going,” ordered
Serafina.

Fine,” Spencer replied as if he
was just scolded for stealing a piece of candy.

Grow up, now take this,” as Serafina handed
Spencer a green pill about the size of a penny.

What’s this?”

It will replenish your energy
much quicker then the garbage they are feeding you, just take
it.”

Spencer placed the pill in his mouth, made a bitter
looking face, drank a cup of water, and started to chew on the
pill.

Do not chew on it, just swallow
it.”

I can’t just swallow, I have a reflux
issue.”

Well this reflux issue certainly has to be a
mental thing because the past host never had issues swallowing
pills.”

I guess so, can you refill my
water please?” asked Spencer politely.

No, but you certainly can.”

How long will this take?”

You should be feeling a fairly decent bolt of
energy soon.”

As Serafina finished her last sentence, Spencer was
already on his feet pulling his hospital gown down in order to
cover his behind.

See, I told you,” said Serafina.

Thanks, but what about my insulin
injections?”

Unfortunately we are not going to have time
for that, but there is no need to worry. We will make sure you get
the necessary injections when needed. Now hurry.

That makes me feel so much
better.”

No time for sarcasm Spencer,
let’s move.

Fine, where are my
clothes?”

In the closet.”

Spencer went over to the closet
to retrieve his clothing then headed into the adjacent bathroom, in
order to change. While there he asked, “So, let me ask you this, if
your people were as advanced as you let on, wouldn’t it have been
easier to hack into the government’s database and create a
registered profile for the John Doe person that I have become. I
would think that would be much easier than playing all this cloak
and dagger crap.”

Spencer, we want the government
to question who you are. You think we have not planned all this
out? We all have our parts, all you need to do is play yours when
instructed.”

I’m not feeling a lot of love here, it’s like
I’m some pawn in a game I’ll never understand.”

Well finally you and I share something in
common,” sighed Serafina.

Once Spencer finished getting dressed he walked out
of the bathroom turned to Serafina and said, “I hope that’s not the
only thing we share.”

What do you mean?” asked Serafina.

Well,” as Spencer broke eye contact with
Serafina and looked down towards the floor, “Please don’t laugh,
but I was also hoping you and I may share something
more.”

Something more?” responded Serafina with a
curious look, “Like what?”

As Spencer struggled for words,
he took his gaze off the floor, redirected it into Serafina’s eyes,
and without any hesitation said, “Feelings for each
other?”

Serafina paused for a moment and followed up with,
“Listen, I am flattered, I really am, but this is not the time to
get all romantic, I have an assignment to complete and so do you,
so whatever feelings you have, you need to put them on pause,
ok?”

Wow, talk about direct. Well, at
least you didn’t say no,” smiled Spencer.

Serafina did not pay attention to
Spencer’s last remark. Instead, she had a slight glaze over her
eyes as if she was daydreaming.

Hello, no need to be rude, I’m right here,
hello,” as Spencer waved his hand over her eyes.”

Sorry, I was just redirected to
another location. I have to go. Here, take this,” said Serafina as
she handed over an address scribbled on a piece of paper, “And put
these sunglasses on with this baseball cap. The staff here does not
expect you to be on your feet so quickly, nor have you been
discharged, this will help disguise your face from anyone who has
already seen you.”

A pair of glasses and a ball cap. This is the
best your savvy underground movement could spare.”

Stop it!” snapped Serafina.

Realizing his humor was not
helping this situation, Spencer asked one simple question, “What do
I do when I get outside?”

Serafina, who was now showing her fair share of
annoyance said, “I was just getting there. After we leave the
hospital together, you will wait for a taxi. The taxi driver will
take you to your new home, he can be trusted; he is a Floater from
your planet. If you need anything, he is the one that can help you.
When you arrive, knock on the door, and tell the person who answers
that I sent you.”

I suppose they send all you
special agent aliens to the same school because none of you have
any tact whatsoever. So where are you going? Let me guess, I don’t
need to know,” commented Spencer.

You are right, you do not.”

Once Spencer was finished putting
the rest of his clothing on, including the hat and glasses, he and
Serafina walked outside of the hospital together and said their
goodbyes. As instructed, Spencer stood there, without a clue of
what lay ahead, while waiting for the taxi driver. Approximately
fifteen minutes had gone by when a yellow cab pulled up. The driver
rolled down the window and shouted, “Spencer, let’s go.”

Spencer studied the driver for a
few seconds, came to the conclusion they had never met, and entered
the cab with little reluctance.

Chapter 12

Discover

On Tureis, there was a small
villa just northwest of the Mana-dorn Mountain range. Quartus sat
in his living area reading an environmental survey taken on
citizens of his home planet, Tureis. Quartus was a tall man,
approximately six feet nine inches, with long wiry hair that
stopped midway between his shoulder blades. He wore a long blue and
black robe with a colorful variety of small Tureisly beads around
his neck. As Quartus reviewed his documents, he stopped to wonder
what it would be like to father a child. He had studied fatherhood
through the archives, but never really comprehended why someone
would want to put him or herself through such a process. As he sat
there and drank his cool nut root juice, he simply concluded
developing a life form through integrating complex humanoid
programs and merging them into a biological shell seemed to be a
lot cleaner and easier. Yet, he felt there was something still
missing. As soon as he completed his thought a message came in
through his cerebral cortex, notifying him Mileva was about to
arrive. Quartus cleaned up the area he was working in and poured a
second cup of nut root juice. Once the area was suitable for
guests, he communicated telepathically to Mileva, giving her
permission to enter, and greeted her with a smile.

Wonderful to see you again, I take it all
went well?” asked Quartus.

Of course, was there any doubt?” smiled
Mileva.

Would you mind if we communicated verbally
today instead of telepathically?” asked Quartus.

Not at all,” replied Mileva with words. “I
still see you like to review your business the old fashion way,” as
she referred to the electronic displays listing survey
data.

You know me, always keeping all of my skills
sharp.”

This is true,” laughed Mileva. “So, you did
not have a lot to say at our last gathering.”

No, I felt I needed to keep my opinions to
myself at least for now.”

Agreeing to call for an
open vote regarding the termination of
EC6L163O7074 was a smart idea. It drew out the ones who
were questioning their beliefs.”

That was my hope, although
I was surprised Zaccai and Kyria voted the way they did. I was
confident we had the votes to salvage
EC6L163O7074’s program, but certainly was not thinking they
would vote for termination. I figured both Zaccai and Kyria would
have at least abstained.”

I was not so surprised. Zaccai appears to be
a lot more cautious lately. As for Kyria I have not yet figured her
out, she is all over the place,” grinned Mileva as she nodded her
head side to side.

So besides us, who else was involved in
sending him back?” asked Quartus.

You certainly cut right to the chase. As of
right now, Abner and Shiphra.”
