“What
was the message, Brooklyn?”

“You
… you … oh, I don’t believe it!  You are going to deny what you did!  Let me
go!”

He
cursed when she tried to kick him on his shin. He flung her over his shoulder
and strode to the rental car where Michael held the door open already.  He
placed her on the seat immediately and snapped the safety belt around her.  She
reached for the clip straight away and he snapped at her.

“Don’t
even think about it, Honey.  My patience has run out and I wouldn’t think twice
tying you up if need be.”

He
slammed the door shut and waved at Michael.

“I
think I’ll stay over and drive back in the morning, seeing as the room has been
paid for already.  Mason … don’t …”

He
looked at him over the roof of the car, nodding briefly.  “Don’t worry,
Mickey.  I have no intention of messing this up.”

The
trip to the airfield where he landed the helicopter was done in silence.  Mason
gnashed his teeth and Brooklyn stared blindly out the window.  Because she settled
back and appeared calm he did not expect her to jump out of the car at a busy
intersection when he stopped at a red traffic light.  By the time he managed to
get out of the traffic and park the car, she disappeared.  He got back into the
car and drove around for over an hour looking for her.  When he slammed on the
door at the Inn he was more than livid.  If he laid his hands on her at any
time soon, she would not be able to sit for weeks!

Michael
looked at him and paled.  He has never seen such quiet viciousness in this man
as at that moment.

“She
ran again?”  Mason nodded and walked past him to roam around the room.

“Where?”

“Jumped
out at a traffic light and disappeared. Of course she switched her phone off as
well. I promise you, Michael, when I find her I will whip her first, before
even talking to her!  She will not bloody be able to sit for weeks!”

“Calm
down, Mace.  She will go back eventually.”

“I
can’t wait for eventually, Michael!”

“I
know you are concerned, but I know my sister.  She will calm down soon and then
the anger will take over.  Then you better be ready … she is just as bad as you
when she fights for what is hers.”

“She
is already angry and I don’t see her fighting for me!”

“No,
my friend, she is very upset and hurt … the anger will still come!  Let’s hope
yours have simmered down by then.  Both of you angry at the same time … not
sure I am ready for that!”

Both
of them tried phoning her at hourly intervals, but her phone remained switched
off.  Mason phoned Charles who had a contact in the FBI and asked him to see if
they could put a trace on her phone.   Charles phoned back fifteen minutes
later.

“Cuz,
they can’t trace it if the phone is off, but he has put a constant tracker on
it, so the minute she switches it on, it will activate the search.  I’ll let
you know the minute they find her.”

“I
don’t care what time, Charles.  Phone me, even if it is in the middle of the
night!”

“Will
do, Cuz.”

Mason send Brooklyn a
text message and noticed it was already midnight.  He sighed, took a quick
shower and then sat down in the deep comfortable chair next to the window,
staring out to the dark; Michael’s soft snoring not even registering.

Brooklyn
stopped at a twenty four hour bistro and bought a sandwich and coffee, then got
straight back on the road.  She hid in a changing room of a retail store for
over an hour before carefully walking back out in the street and took a taxi to
the nearest car rental outlet.  She hid in a parking garage for another hour;
just to be sure she won’t bump into Mason and took to the road after midnight
back to New York.

She
ate the sandwich while driving and sipped the coffee slowly and felt her energy
reviving.  Her eye caught the clock on the dash and sighed when she noticed it
was nearly two thirty in the morning.  There was another hour or so to go, but
with hardly any traffic the road was quiet and the miles slipped by.

Remembering
she switched her phone off, she quickly took it out and switched it back on.
She did not want to have to battle with switching a phone on in case of an
emergency.  The phone beeped a few times immediately and she sighed.  She eased
her foot off the pedal and snorted when she saw the numerous missed calls from
Mason and a few from Michael as well.  There was also a text message from each
of them.  She read Michael’s first and felt the lump forming in her throat.

Sis,
please be careful.  I love you lots and am worried about you.  Don’t let a
stupid misunderstanding destroy your future with a wonderful man.  Give him a
chan
c
e,
bumble bee!

She
swiped to Mason’s message and swallowed hard at the abruptness of his words.

I
will never let you go.  You might as well stop running.

Stupid man!  She did
not belong to him and if he for one moment thought she would stay with him when
he … when he … argh!  She could not even think about other women in his arms …
in his bed!  The more she thought about it, the angrier she became.  She would
show him … two could play the game.  The anger bubbled and burned inside her
all the way to New York.

Mason picked
up the call on the first ring.  “Where is she?”

“She
was in the Allentown area. It seems she was en route to New York and then changed
direction.  She now seems to be heading to Philadelphia.  Trent says he
suspects she took a wrong turn and might not even know she is heading in the
wrong direction.  Let’s wait and see where she goes from there before you head
that way.  I’ll call again in an hour.  She should be there by then.  Why don’t
you try and sleep, Cuz.  I am sure she’ll be in New York in the morning, if she
does not stop to sleep somewhere.”

Mason
took Charles’s advice and leaned back on the chair and fell asleep.  He was
already awake by five when Charles phoned again.

“She
stopped for about an hour in Phili.  She is already on the outskirts of New
York.”

“Thanks,
Charles. I really appreciate it.”

He
sighed in relief and stretched his tired body.  Michael was awake and looked at
Mason questioningly.

“She
is already in New York. Seems she took a wrong turn and ended up in
Philadelphia and rested there for a while.  I am off, Mickey.  I need to find
her.”

“Just
give me five minutes.  I’ll leave the Porsche at the car rental agency and
arrange with the Porsche dealer to fetch it and take it back home.”

Mason
nodded, turned his phone over and over in his hands, then gave in and sent
Brooklyn a text.

Brooklyn
just stopped for more coffee when her phone beeped.

Honey,
please tell me you’re ok.

She
took a deep breath, contemplating whether she should respond and then thought
about how she would feel if he just disappeared and she didn’t know where he
was.  Even being angry she couldn’t ignore his concern.

I’m
fine.

Mason
took a deep breath, elated that she answered.  It meant that she still took his
feelings to heart.

Chapter Sixteen

Mason had an
important meeting he could not change and went to the office, frustrated beyond
imagination.  Brooklyn’s phone was off again and he had no idea where she was.
Michael promised to let him know if he heard anything.

Tiaan
was worried about Mason, but also had the utmost respect for how he still
managed to stay focused on the meeting that resulted in the signing of another
Global client by late afternoon.

“Tiaan,
I have to go.  I have to start looking for her.”

“Where
are you going to look, Mace?  New York is a big city.”

“Don’t
tell me something I don’t already know.  I am going to Michael’s.  Maybe she’ll
go there eventually.  I’ll keep you updated.”

Pizza
was just delivered when he arrived at Michael’s house and reluctantly ate two
slices.  He slumped down on a couch and felt so helpless.

“I
wish I knew where to start looking, Mickey.  Would she not go to Allison?”

“Not
there.  I already phoned her.”

“What
about her friend, Lilly?”

“Nope,
also not at home.”

Michael’s
phone rang and the caller id said it was Lucas.

“Hi
Luke, what’s up?”

“Ehm
… is Mason with you?”   Michael glanced at him and he sat up when he noticed
the look.

“Yeah,
why?”

“Ehm
… maybe I should just sort this out myself.”

“Lucas!
What is going on?  Is Bee there?”

“Yes,
but Mickey … she is somewhat …”

“Somewhat
what?”

“Ehm
… tipsy …”

“Tipsy?
Brooklyn?”

“Yes
and she is acting totally out of norm.  She’s flirting with the jocks, Mickey.”

“She
is doing what!”

“Dammit
Michael.  You heard me.  I think I’ll just grab her and carry her out.  The way
she is dressed, these guys can’t keep their hands off her.”

“How
… is she …”

“She’s
wearing those tiny denim shorts and a crop top with her Cats.  Oh no … Bee …
no, get off the table!  Hell, Mickey, she’s dancing on the tables!  I think you
better get here quick.  But I suggest you leave Mason behind.  He is likely to
commit murder when he gets here … oh hell … likely a few murders!”

“Where
are you?”

“At
the Track bar.”

“I’m
on my way. Try and get her out of there in the meantime.”

Mason
was already up and waiting with his keys in his hands.  Michael glanced at him
worriedly.

“Maybe
I should go alone.  I’ll bring her back here.”

Mason
glared at him, recognizing the concern in his eyes and he felt the anger
bubbling inside him.

“What
is she doing?”

“Ehm
… sounds like she is slightly tipsy and is attracting quite a lot of …
attention.”

Mason
swung around and stormed out the door, his body tightly wired and his jaw
rigid.  Michael realized there was no way he would stay behind.  The luxurious
SUV was very powerful and ate up the distance in no time.  Michael prayed that
Lucas managed to get Brooklyn out of the bar by the time they arrived.  He did
not even want to imagine what Mason would do if he found her flirting with
those hunky jocks.

The
SUV hardly pulled to a stop and Mason was out the door.  His long strides ate
up the distance to the door and Michael ran to get inside ahead of him.
Praying he could get to Brooklyn before Mason did. The sight that met his eyes froze
him in his tracks when he entered the bar.  Mason bumped into him from behind.
His eyes found her immediately and rage rushed through him so fast he felt his
hands tremble.

Brooklyn
wore those tiny denim shorts she had on the day they met with a tight crop top,
leaving her belly bare.  It also hugged and pushed her breasts upwards
enticingly.  He ground his teeth as he watched her dance seductively in the
middle of the floor, her arms raised over her head and her hips swayed in slow
sexy circles.  Her head was thrown backwards and her lips shone in the dim
light as she turned and smiled at the blond man that circled around her.  When
he reached for her hips she twirled away and continued to sway, lifting her
hair seductively away from her neck.  The blond jock closed in on her again and
when his hands closed around her hips, Mason lost it.

Before
Michael could stop him he was already next to the couple and Brooklyn gasped
when she looked up and suddenly he was there.  He didn’t say a word, but his
fist flew past her face to smash in the blond man dancing with hers’ face.  She
heard his cry of pain and turned to look at him, but Mason had her elbow in a
death grip and yanked her behind him towards the door.

Her
head spun and she tripped when he pulled her outside.  He yanked her up and his
hand tightened around her arm and she cried out.

“You’re
hurting me!”

He
ignored her and continued jerking her towards the back of the building.  The
moment they turned the corner everything was ensconced in total darkness.  He
smashed her against the wall and his whole body pressed her back and she cried
as she battled to breathe.  His mouth crashed on hers and he kissed her with
hard deliberateness. His tongue forced itself past her lips and he tilted her
head back with his hand on her neck.  He forced her mouth open wider and wider
and kissed her so deeply she felt she was drowning.

His
hands ripped her shorts open and she moaned and cried when his mouth left hers.
He shoved her shorts and panties down her legs.

“No!
What are you doing!  Mason … No!”

By
the time he straightened he had his arousal out and he slammed home, so hard
and so deep she cried out at the sudden intrusion. He breathed haggardly.  His
whole body trembled and she realized he was furious.  He slipped his arms under
her knees and pulled them up and against the wall to spread her wide open.  He
started plunging into her.  He slammed her into the wall with every forward
thrust.  She cried and held on to his shoulders, her only support apart from
the wall behind her back.

“Mason
… baby … please stop!”

“No!
This is your own fault, Brooklyn … ugghh … oh God!”

He
slammed into her once more and then pressed her back against the wall, holding
still.  He breathed heavily against her and she thrilled at his shaft jumping
inside her.  He pulled his arms from under her knees and guided her legs around
his waist.  He softly stroked her legs where he had gripped it to keep them
spread wide.  His need to ensure she was his and to re-connect with her burned
like a cinder inside his soul.

Brooklyn
felt his heart thumping like a race horse inside his chest.  He nuzzled her
neck, breathing deep and tried to regain control of his raging emotions.  He
lost control when he saw that man touch her and did not even realize what he did
until she begged him to stop.  His arousal throbbed painfully where he was
buried so deep inside her he didn’t know where he ended and she began.

“I
need you, Brooklyn.  Please don’t tell me to stop.”

She
tightened her legs around his waist and ground her hips against his; forcing
him even deeper and he groaned, pulled out nearly all the way and slammed back
in.  He plunged into her and she thrashed with him.  Their shouts filled the
night air as they reached a pleasure so intense they shivered against each
other.

It
took a while for them to regain control. Mason withdrew reluctantly from her
warm body and helped her dress.  He took her face between his hands and kissed
her tenderly.  His lips so sweet and soft she nearly cried.

“God
knows, I am so angry at you.  How could you let him touch you? How could you …
dammit, Brooklyn, how could you deliberately entice him like that?”

“I
was angry!  I still am and I can ask you the same question!”

He
shook his head and she wished she could read the expression in his eyes, but it
was too dark.

“No,
Brooklyn.  I did not allow anything nor did I entice or flirt.”

He
sighed and ran his hands through his hair.  He took her hand and turned towards
his car.

“Let’s
go home. We’ll talk there.”

Neither
of them said a word all the way home and Brooklyn was relieved when he landed
the chopper.  She went straight to the bathroom and ran a warm bath.  She
soaked her tired body and cursed herself for drinking all that champagne on an
empty stomach.  Obviously it went only one way … to her head and that was why
she … sort of became so seductive and flirty.  Maybe she knew what she was
doing.  She knew Lucas would phone Mason and she wanted him to feel what she
did when she walked in on him and his actress!

“How
much longer are you planning on hiding in there, Brooklyn?”

His
grim question from the other side of the door pulled her from her reverie and
she sat up.

“I’ll
be right out.

She
finished washing and rinsing her hair and got out of the tub.  She dried her
hair quickly and wrapped a towel around her, tugging it in between her
breasts.  She walked to the walk-in cupboard and drew out jockey stretch shorts
and a crop top.  She pulled it on before she walked into their room.

Mason
was already on the bed and his eyes followed her until she climbed on the bed.
His eyes lowered and he looked down over her body.  His discontent was clear in
the flash of his eyes.  She folded her arms over her chest, lifting her chin.

“I
am not going to sit here naked while we talk.”

He
promptly moved lower down on the bed and lay down, closing his eyes, his hands
loosely on his belly.

She
stared at him in utter disbelief.

“You
are not going to sleep, Mason!  We have to talk!”

He
didn’t even open his eyes.  “You know the rules, Honey.”

Her
mouth gaped open.  The audacity of the man!  She rose from the bed and stalked
over to the reading chairs in front of the window and plunked down on one of
them.

“Now,
we talk.”

He
ignored her and did not move a muscle.

“Mason!
You will not ignore me!  We need to talk.”

“Yes,
we do, but I am already in bed, so we will talk here or not at all.  It’s your
choice.”

She
screeched in frustration, jumped up and shoved the shorts down her legs and
ripped the top up and over her head.  Mason’s breathing froze in his throat
when her breasts snagged on the top and bounced and jiggled when she pulled the
top over her head.

She
stalked angrily back to the bed, very aware of his eyes on her.  She got under
the sheet and pulled it up and tugged it in under her arms.

“So
talk.  I am really interested to hear this.”

“No
… get over here.”

She
turned her head to him and glared at him.

“I
am quite comfortable where I am, thank you.”

“Then
I guess you don’t really want to talk.”

“Why
does everything always have to be your way?”  She snapped at him and her eyes
flashed angrily.  He lifted his eyebrows.

“Where
do you want me?”

“Straddle
my hips.”

She
gasped at him.  “Mason, what we have to talk about is serious.  We can’t do
that with me sitting on your lap!”

“Yet,
that is where I want you.”

His
eyes glittered like diamonds in the night and kept hers hostage.  She sighed,
pulled the sheet down and crawled over to him.  She rose and lifted her leg
over his and settled on top of him.  He shook his head and she tightened her
lips.  She grabbed the sheet behind her legs, lifted slightly and ripped it
from between their bodies.  She lowered on top of him and her warm, wet sheath
settled around and sucked the length of his hardening and swelling shaft into the
length of her sheath.

They
pulled their breaths in simultaneously and Mason had to breathe in deep and
slowly to calm his thundering testosterone.

“Tell
me what you saw when you walked into my office, yesterday.”

“Why,
you were there!”

“Humor
me, Brooklyn.”

“I
saw your supposed ex-lover grinding her hips into yours, wrapped over and on
top of you. Oh, and let us not forget the heated and throat depth kiss you gave
her, with your arms wrapped around her!”

He
frowned and his hands fell on her thighs, stroking the soft inner skin.  He looked
into her eyes and shook his head.

“Think
back again, Brooklyn.  That is not what you saw.”

“It
is exactly what I saw!”

“Think!
See it in your mind!”

“No!
I don’t even want to talk about it! Let alone see it in my mind again!”

“Think!”

She
snorted angrily; her eyes smoky and now deep silver in color.  Mason did not
let up and watched her with narrowed eyes, his fingers tightened on her thighs.
Her lips tightened, but she allowed her mind to wander back to the moment she
opened the door.
