“Damn that shit was smooth! And look at that stupid nigga all stretched out.” She pointed at Jax. “I never doubted you for a second.”

“Thanks, but I couldn’t have done it without you and the crew. Where’s Dallas?”

“She’s waiting in my car with an attitude. I had to leave her ass. And I don’t care if she’s listening to me talk about her either. I couldn’t take another second of her chewin’ her damn gum like it was fried chicken flavor or somethin’.”

“Kiss my ass.” We both heard Dallas sing out.

I chuckled lightl
y. “Look, after Quiana shows up we can bounce. Here she comes now. It’s time to get paid.” I rubbed my hands together.

I watched patiently as a yellow Lamborghini drove slowly up the unpaved road. Everything was working out perfectly. I didn’t want Quiana to see Fah and his crew and they were long gone by now. The sports car kept coming up the road and Angelique got real quiet as she stood next to me. She studied the bright car as it came to a stop in front of the hangar. Quiana got out and smiled at me clapping her hands together.

“I had my doubts Tyce.” She walked towards me in a pair of tight denim jeans and a tank top.

I watched Angelique’s eyes zero in on the front license plate of Quiana’s sports car.

“Speed.” I heard her say.

“What?” I looked at Angelique.

“Speed.” She said louder. “That bitch is a cop!”

Quiana froze in her tracks. Her eyes grew wider as we both stared at her.

“What?” I said again.

“She’s a fuckin’ cop. I saw that same car parked in a spot at the police station when I was there for questioning. I’ll never forget that license plate. Speed, it’s the same fuckin’ car Tyce!” Angeli
que pointed at the Lamborghini.

I pointed my gun at Quiana’s chest and started walking toward her.

“I love this woman, and I trust this woman with my life, so you better start talkin’ before I start shootin’. What were you doin’ at the holice station?” Angelique walked right beside me as I stepped to Quiana.

She sat down easily on the shiny low hood of her car. “She’s right, I was there-but I’m not a cop. I am what I told you I was…I’m a business woman.”

“And what business did you have with the police?” Angelique took the words right out of my mouth.

“You.” Quiana pointed a red polished finger at Angelique.

“Me?”

“Yes you. You don’t get as far as I have without having strong relationships with people in high places; and that includes law enforcement. I knew
you were going to be picked up before you did Angelique and I came down there to see if you folded under the pressure of Detective Sharpe. You remember Detective Conner?” She nodded her head.

“Yeah, I remember his stupid ass.”

“Good…he’s been on my payroll for the past three years. I went down there to ask him if you flipped. He said you didn’t flinch and inch so I left you alone. If you had, then I would have dealt with you accordingly to protect my employee and in turn protect my business interests. Tyce was working for me and anything or anyone that jeopardized that would be eliminated. So your unwavering loyalty for him literally saved your life. Like I told you Tyce, there isn’t too much in California I don’t know about. So put the gun down, give me the diamonds, and allow me to congratulate you on a job well done. Oh…and pay you 25 million dollars.”

I cocked my head to the side and lowered my gun. “So you knew I was being investigated the whole time?”

“Yep, and you handled yourself just like a boss would. You suspected it and you found a way to get the job done without sacrificing yourself or your team. I do admit that when I found out that dead man over there had the diamonds I got a little worried but in the back of my mind I knew you would come through. I’ve done my homework on you and you sir are a sexy survivor. There’s no way you would let an arrogant bum like Jax one up you.”

I grinned at her. “You’re muthafuckin’ right about that.”

“I know I am…now put the case in the front seat and there’s a Louis Vuitton carry on full of money with your name on it” Quiana opened the passenger side door.

I put the case on the floor and grabbed the bag off the seat. Quiana was all business as she inspected the stones briefly to make sure they were the real deal. After her examination, she closed the lid and got into her car.

“The money is all their Tyce. Tell your crew I send my gratitude, and I’ll call you tomorrow so we can arrange a time to settle up on that private matter. Take it easy Angelique.” Quiana flipped her hair and looked at us both from her car window. “If you don’t mind me saying so…but I think you guys make a cute couple.”

Angelique shot me a flirtatious glance as Quiana pulled off and drove down the old dusty r
oad.

“I like her.” Angelique pointed at her car.

I sucked my teeth. “Jus’ a minute ago you were ready to shoot her in the face.”

“That’s when I thought she was trying to set you
up. I told you…nobody has your back like me.”

I nodded my head in agreement. “You’re muthafuckin’ right about that. Now let’s get out of here and get back to the beach house so we can spread this money around.”

Angelique tapped the bag. “You know counting money is my favorite hobby.”

Angelique and I returned to her car but when I opened the door…the car was empty. Dallas was gone. Angelique looked inside, she popped the trunk but there was no sign of her. I looked under the car and around the immediate wooded area but I still didn’t see her.

“Dallas can you hear me?” I tapped my ear piece.

I had completely forgotten about the ear piece. I had gotten so used to wearing it that I
’d forgotten it was even there.

“Dallas are you there?”

I got no reply. There was no answer.

“Dallas! Dallas!” I was starting to get worried.

Where the hell was she? There was no way someone could have taken her and me or Angelique not here it. Plus I had heard her tell Angelique to kiss her ass. Where the hell was she? Her gun was missing too.

“DALLAS!” I shouted into the trees.

“Tyce.” I heard Angelique call my name softly.

I turned around to face her as she walked up to me with her hand out.

“What is it?” I looked at her.

“I found this on the dash board.”

I looked at her palm and saw the engagement ring I’d given to Dallas.

Angelique let out a sigh. “She left this behind…she’s gone.”

Twenty five million dollars was a lot of fucking money. And usually making money made me feel better. But it had been two days since Dallas left and I still hadn’t seen or heard from her. No one had. I paid my crew and I set her share aside for her. I text her a bunch of times, I made dozens of calls to her phone…but she didn’t answer or text back.

I had no idea where she was. She had left all her clothes and stuff at my house and she hadn’t come back for any of it. It was all unclear until I got a letter in the mail a day later. I sat down with my bare legs dangling in my pool as I read her words.

Dear Tyce.

I’m sorry if I cause
d you pause or cause for worry.

I’m sorry if tears or sorr
ow made your vision blurry.

I had to go and find me. I had to set my soul free.
As your words sounded in my ear; my heart began to fill with fear.

For in your words one thing ra
ng true.

Marriage was not for me and you.
And so I stole away in stealth.

Cuz you’re in love with someone else.

The next night I found myself alone eating a gourmet meal prepared by Carmela. I felt bad. I felt like I let Dallas down. I wanted the chance to set things straight or fix it…or something. I just wanted the chance to talk to her
about what went on.

But one thing I couldn’t deny was that she was muthafuckin’ right about that.

I was still in love with Angelique.

I finished my food and set my plate in the sink. And then I heard the doorbell ring. I walked to the door and opened it and smiled at the two ladies standing in front of me.

“Can we come in?” Angelique looked up at me.

I looked at Angelique as she held Khari in her arms.

“Sure.”

“Hi daddy.” Khari smiled at me.

“Hey baby girl…I missed you.”

“We missed you too.” Angelique stepped inside my home.
