She stumbled through to the clearing and breathed a sigh of grateful air when she noticed she wasn't alone; a form was a small distance away. She thought it must be someone else 13

taking a shortcut to the party. The form grew larger as it approached until it became a huge shadow moving towards her from the mist in the opposite direction. She tensed in apprehension, none of her and Trisha's friends were this large. Goose bumps dotted her arms and the hairs tingled at the nape of her neck. Without thinking, her sword found its way into both her unsteady hands. She waved it back and forth, wanting whoever this was to understand she meant business.

When the mist cleared, Vicki's mouth dropped open. A mountain of a man stood before her. She was amazed. The huge brute had to be at least six foot four or maybe even taller. He was solid muscle, bare-chested and had tree trunk-sized arms for limbs. For the first time in many years Vicki felt dainty. She also felt afraid. The man held his own massive sword and it was pointed in her direction, the silver tip gleamed ominously. The scowl he wore on his face made her want to run shrieking in terror.

"You are mine, Valkyrie," he declared in a deep triumphant voice.

He then threw back his head and howled a blood-curdling sound to the now semi-visible half-shielded moon. Terrified, Vicki screamed.

Chapter 1

"If you want to try and frighten me, you had best use another battle cry," the man stated, his position relaxed and he suddenly burst out laughing.

Vicki's arms and legs were dotted with fresh goose bumps.

The fine hairs on the back of her neck that had tingled were now standing at attention like soldiers. The man before her was grinning and Vicki grew angry.

"Very funny," she snapped.

"How do you expect to best me with that wee little sword?"

he said, his amusement obviously growing.

"Did Trisha put you up to this?" she demanded. She was furious as hell with her friend's joke. The creep before her had actually scared her. The guy in front of her was obviously the 'something special' her friend had cooked up. There was a door prize for the best costumed couple. The man was dressed in fur and leather hide and looked every inch a powerhouse Viking warrior, no doubt to match her costume.

He had black as night shoulder-length hair and was beyond gorgeous. No doubt he was her date for the evening. Trisha was always saying she needed to get laid by a delicious, huge, hunky barbarian type, who would make her feel all womanly.

"I know of no Trisha," he replied. "You will come with me, now."

His voice was rough and deep, a commanding, and very dominating and Vicki had to admit he played his character 15

well. She wondered if he was an actor Trisha had paid. Trisha certainly had the money, so it was a feasible assumption.

Vicki relaxed knowing she was in no danger.

"All right, funny man, how do we get out of here?" she asked and peered through the mist that seemed to be flanking them.

"You yield then?" he asked.

Vicki centered her direct gaze back onto him. She stood there shivering with cold and very much in need of a drink after almost having the wits scared out of her.

"Yes, fine, I yield. But only if you have something for me to drink." She haughtily eyed the bulging primitive leather. It was a good touch to his costume.

"I will not bargain with a captive."

"Captive? I don't know what you have in mind, but I'm guessing Trisha didn't pay you that much. Buddy, you need to get out more."

"I am not Buddy, my name is Ulfr."

"Well, Wolf, I'm Vicki Valhalla, as you must know."

He frowned. "Little Valkyrie from Valhalla, do you or do you not yield?" he demanded.

Little.

She frowned back. Vicki hadn't been called 'little' in ages.

She wondered for a second if he was teasing her. She wondered if Trisha had said something. But she supposed compared to this walking mountain she was in fact small.

What an interesting concept. Her sword rose.

The man's sword lifted to meet hers immediately. "You should rethink this," he cautioned.

"Why?" she said saucily. "I'm a Valkyrie from Valhalla, after all, you puny warrior. Feel my wrath."

She laughed when her sword clashed with his and he stumbled back a small step in surprise.

"This is not supposed to happen," he declared, looking genuinely concerned.

"Oh relax, I'm not really going to hurt you," she chided with some disgust.

Her sword again struck his playfully. She moved forward as he continued to retreat. The look on his face was priceless.

This is fun.
Maybe Trisha knew what she needed after all. He parlayed each of her hits. He wasn't bad. She was by no means an expert swordswoman, but she could hold her own in duels. Her father had taught her. She laughed, thinking all her other friends took ballet, while she went dueling with Daddy. But she hadn't minded. It was part of her Viking heritage after all and something she was proud of.

The man before her was very good. She could tell each rise and fall of his huge blade was only in defense of himself, since he had yet to return any hit. He really was a good actor.

He seemed to be studying her.

"You should not have taken up arms against me. When I win this fight you will give yourself to me willingly and come back as my captive. Yield to me now and I will go easier on you," he said.

His deep voice made her smile with his hint of a threat.

She might actually let this guy have her he was so damned hot and sexy.

"If you want me you're gonna have to take me," she taunted and waved her sword in his face.

He looked at her grimly. "So be it, little Valkyrie. One warning was enough," he said. He then yelled that blood-curdling howl of his again.

Vicki winced at the roar he made and shivered. She actually felt hot between her legs; this was such a turn-on.

This was the most Halloween fun she had ever had. She smiled widely as the gorgeous hunk flexed his awesome muscles...until he came at her like a madman. His blade swung down and hit hers with a force that almost knocked her weapon from her hands. The blow rocked her to her toes and she yelped in surprised pain. Before she could recover he struck again, then again. It took every ounce of her strength not to fall to the ground.

She was moved backwards deeper into the mist with each thrust, each clash of their blades. She stumbled over vegetation and began gasping for air. She was now the one defending herself against his heated brutal strikes. Both of her hands holding the sword shook in agony. Her arms began feeling like spaghetti noodles. She was growing weaker at a steady rate. She parlayed a thrust that almost went through her. This had gone far enough.

"Stop!" she screamed.

But he didn't. His heavy blade rose high above his head and thinking he had gone insane...Vicki turned and ran for all 18

she was worth through the dense fog. Her sword was clutched tightly in her hand as she ran. She could hear him gaining on her; the foliage behind her was ripped and slaughtered as he cleared himself an easier path. She was certain he was going to kill her; soon it would be she who was shredded like the plant life and doomed. Tears began to fall from her eyes in a steady stream. A terrible thought filled her with panic, Trisha hadn't sent this man, he was like some Viking turned

victims had her feet moving faster than she had ever moved in her life. Farther into the mist she ran, dodging rocks, jumping stumps and fallen trees. Her entire body was beaded in sweat from her exertion. Strangely, she suddenly began to get cold. She felt an odd surge of power from the sword, making her hand tingle. When she looked down on it, the weapon had an eerie glow for just a few moments, then the light ceased.

The farther she went the colder she became until suddenly she was out of the dense fog. She stopped, her lungs were gasping for air. She looked all around her for an easier escape route. The tall trees were massive in the stunning, clear, full moonlight. The foliage was thicker and fuller than the sparsely dotted forest she was used to. The air smelled cleaner than after a rain shower.

Vicki had no idea where she was or which direction to flee in. Nothing was familiar and she spun about to face the man.

Her sword was held tightly before her. When he came 19

barreling through the mist he stopped and studied her for a moment. She knew she must look a pathetic sight. She was sobbing hysterically; her tears were streaming down her face.

Her hands shook, one splayed in supplication before her.

"Don't" she begged. One shaking hand lifted to wipe at her eyes, her vision obscured from crying.

Her knees clicked together as he came closer. Again she pleaded with the huge man, feeling tired and so tiny and vulnerable. Her words sounded pitiful to her own ears as she cried harder. He said something she didn't understand and indicated the sword. She shook violently and could feel her nipples harden and she was mortified when she looked down at herself. She was nude!

Oh my God where are my
clothes?

The man before her remained clothed. She was doubly vulnerable. His sword rose and his powerful muscles bulged.

Vicki choked on a scream, he was going to kill her and she was too exhausted to fight anymore. She whimpered up at him—it was a strange sound she had never once heard emerge from her mouth. Her sword spiraled to the forest floor when she dropped it as she slowly sank to her knees and then side. Her head touched the forest floor gently as the giant brute before her stopped her rapid descent. Her eyes closed when his arms tightened around her and she fainted.

Chapter 2

Vicki was aware the man, Wolf—she thought his name was Wolf—was carrying her. To where, she had no clue. Each time her fearful eyes opened to look at him, he said something she didn't understand and she whimpered and buried her face within his neck. She hated this vulnerable, powerless feeling.

Was this what Trisha had meant when she said guys could be spooky sometimes? Vicki hadn't understood her—not then.

Trisha's boyfriend was only an inch taller than Vicki at five ten and his body was unimpressive. Then again Trisha was only five feet. Her boyfriend had ten inches in height on her and possibly sixty pounds. Perhaps being petite and weak wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

Wolf spoke again and Vicki saw a cave or cavern come into view. He took her to a pool of steaming water and set her at the side. Though the air was warmer in the cave, the rock was slightly cold and she shivered and shifted when a pebble pinched her behind. She watched, open-mouthed, as he removed his clothes. Her eyes grew wider as he stripped his wolf pants off.

She was frozen to the spot. His huge hardened cock sprang free. Vicki blinked hard; she had never seen a more impressive man. He slipped into the water, making a large ripple then reached for her. She shied back but was unable to pull away in time. Wolf pulled her in with him, lifting her under her arms as though she was nothing but a feather. His strength alone made her apprehensive. She stood before him, 21

fearfully, her bare breasts just above the heated water. His hands rose to cup each one, testing their weight. Vicki was big-breasted and he looked impressed. She was amazed his hands were so large they seemed to fit her perfectly.

She wasn't certain what to do. Should she pull away? What if he hurt her? She began shaking and her throat made that disturbing whimpering sound again. She felt her teeth click together. His nose nuzzled her hair; she heard him breathe in her scent and he said something quietly. His rough voice gentled and she felt his palm cup her chin for a moment when he spoke a word that sounded strangely enough like an endearment. Whereas before, his once fury-filled eyes had now changed to being full of deep, longing desire. She again blinked in her confusion. Only moments earlier he had come after her with a sword. Now he lifted a handful of water to dribble it over her chest and between her breasts. The water warmed her as was no doubt his motive.
What is going on?

Was she perhaps mistaken? Maybe he really had been sent by Trisha after all and his playacting had gotten out of hand.

He seemed to be taking genuine pains not to frighten her further. But why the sudden change in languages? Did people really get so caught up in character to play a part? She had heard some did. Whatever was happening was thankfully lessening her fear—at least of her imminent demise.

"What do you want?" she whispered, her teeth clicked together.

In response Wolf's hands rubbed warmth into her neck and shoulders. His long fingers ran through her hair and he smiled at her looking pleased. He tugged at her blond streak with 22
