My neck is next, his fingers brush over an old scar, fang marks from when I was changed.  At last he checks my arms from top to bottom, front to back. When he gets to my right arm he stops; just beneath the crook of my elbow and his fingers push harder into the skin there. “I’ve found it.” “You found it, in my arm. “ I am not amused, I snatch my arm away. “You know what Kenji, next time, how about you start with my arms and work your way from there. Then maybe I won’t have to take my freaking clothes off.”  I grab my clothes off the floor and quickly dress; as I button my jeans I find that he is not even the least bit ashamed of himself. I have a remedy for that, and I give him a swift hard punch to the jaw. “I knew you were going to do that Eva, but I think you needed to do that.” He says with a laugh.  “So we found it now what?”  He pulls out a large blade; oh great now he wants to cut me ugh.” I need to cut it out.”  I sit down put my arm out on the dusty table; he frowns as he concentrates his pushes the blade deep, dark blood pours out. A few minutes later he pulls the tracker out; its lights blinking. Its square and covered in a clear flexible plastic. There is no doubting it now, I was tagged at the compound, and there is no escaping them. Kenji crushes the tracker, under his palm, “We have no more than an hour to vacate the premises.”  The field were they found us is ten miles from here, and they were about two miles from us when I heard them; that means they can only track us within two miles or so. “Gather your weapons we leave in five minutes.”

“We lost them sir, the tracker was disabled, and we were unable to find their exact position.”  “Find their trail and find out where they are going; do it the old fashioned way. I will send Horatio with the hounds. They must be found.”   I must find those two, they have stolen victory from me once, and they must be punished. I need to find the location of Isis, if I can’t do that one thing; I will never be The King of the Damned. I Ramses must be in control of the underworld I must be the only one in Power. Isis and her brother Osiris sought to rob me of life, but I will trump them all and take over. I will progress were they have failed. The death of Isis must come and it must come soon.

We ran all night long, before day break I found a cave for us to stay in until night fall. Eva can’t travel during full daylight right now. I have been trying to think of how we can reach Ramses before he reaches us; we had a close call to getting captured once. I don’t doubt that it will happen again soon. “I think that I may have a plan to get close to Ramses.”  “Really, what is it?” “I think that we should let them capture us.”  “Let them capture us? What the hell kind of plan is that?”  “ It’s the only way that we can get close to Ramses. He will be there when they question us about where Isis is. How else will we be able to get close to him? You said yourself that he has an armed guard of at least forty men. Even if we got into the compound you and I alone wouldn’t be able to defeat forty armed guards.”  “ So, what do we do if we get captured? We might be close to him, but I’m sure that we will be under heavy guard this time.”   “ I should be able to handle that part on my own, Eva. I can get us out of the holding area and right into Ramses room.”

“How will you do that you just said that he hard forty armed guards, which we couldn’t fight on our own.”  “Yes, but if they have us under guard they won’t be expecting us to be able to escape. Ramses will not keep many guards around him if he knows we are in a holding cell, the he assumes that we can’t break out of.”  I think that I must show Eva exactly what I can do. “I want to show you something that will help you to better understand what I mean. I have used this gift a couple of times with you, but you don’t really know what it is or how it works.”  As she watches I take one of my blades and hold it in my hand, as she watches, it evaporates into a fine mist. I move the mist through the air and let it settle in her lap; it begins to take form and becomes a knife again. “So that is how you did that to us. You turned us into mist. If you can do that in the holding cell, we will definitely be able to get to Ramses.  I nod in agreement, and settle myself down to think of how best to kill Ramses.

I don’t tell Eva that I fear shifting into mist with her for a third time. Every time I shift with her a bigger piece of her essence is left behind with me; when it happened first it was small; now I feel her as surely as I feel the wind blowing across my face. This new awareness of her has left me guarded. I now think that shifting together is no longer a good idea, but I know in order to defeat Ramses I will need her by my side. This whiff of her that is left inside of me has me doubting whether or not I want to put her in harm’s way. In all honesty I want to hide Eva away and protect her from the battle that is coming; I fear that if I should lose her I will lose the one person I have come close to loving since, Isis.

The scent of a forest after it rains, that lingers around her; the softness of her hair, the sweet curls each as different as the stars in the sky. Her skin silver in moon light her prowess with sword unmatched thus far, Eva, even her name speaks to me like dew falling to the earth before dawn, it is the lullaby that soothes my soul. When I have felt that the road would be too tough for us, one look in her eyes, grounds me and I am able to plant my feet firmly and move forward. How I long for her to be close to me again, I want my hands to explore her every nook and cranny, to know her every desire. Does she desire me I wonder to myself, would she welcome my lips to hers like the night welcoming the dawn?

Would the taste of crimson wine greet me when I first partake?  Will she mold to me like gold in fire, or will she pull herself away.  I see her still striding across the sand, a true daughter of Egypt finally back at last in her homeland. She is a queen among women and yet doesn’t see herself so. How I wish I could tell her that she needn’t try so hard, she is perfect from head to toe. Now that we have a plan I know that I cannot tell her these things, they might distract her from her task. The gods help me if I should fall without Eva knowing how I how I feel. How do I push this sweet essence of her from me, I feel it is a disease this love I have; a disease of which I will never be free. I see in her eyes my destiny now and whether I live or die, I want her always by me. I will die before I let grievous harm come to her. I will die before I let Ramses, Nephilim swine that he is harm one hair on her head.  If I perish so be it.

We have a plan now, and I am glad for it, I hate sitting and not having a plan. The plan we have is not fool proof of course a million things could go wrong. We may even die; I don’t know how I feel about dying, I try to push that as far from my mind as possible. As long as we are able to kill Ramses; his death will mean peace and safety for covens everywhere. Not only that but, Isis the queen of us all will finally be safe; she can be resurrected and live in peace. I am still trying to figure out exactly how you kill a Nephilim, Ramses is a Hybrid of epic proportions, and we really don’t even know what powers he possesses. “Kenji, how exactly do we kill Ramses, he is hybrid of sorts, and I have never had to kill a Nephilim Vampire before.” “We will kill him as each part of him dictates. To kill rob him of his Nephilim powers we must cut off his wings; to murder his vampire half we must rip his body apart and burn him to dust.” That is a lot of different ways to murder someone who is extremely powerful.” How do we get to his wings?” “Trust me when Ramses comes face to face with us, his pride will have him putting on quite the show.” “Well let’s get this party started then.” I turn on my transporter, I set the locator beacon to GPS our coordinates; and we wait.  It doesn’t take long within an hour we hear shouts and barking dogs outside our cave. They tell us to throw out our weapons and to lay down on the ground with our hands on or heads. We do as we are told; they come in and load us into UV blocking body bags. As they carry us out I keep my fingers crossed, this could wrong in so many different ways.

They have put us in Sector 7 lockup, there are twenty guards surrounding our cell, four cameras directed on us from every corner of our cell. They give us only one cot to share; we have virtually no privacy, but we expected this. I know they have the place bugged with listening devices so Kenji and I have only spoken directly into each other’s ears, when the need to talk arises. We have been here for hours now, and no one has taken us for questioning; oddly enough we have been treated better than I expected.

Soon enough a Burly looking Guard comes to our cell and raises the bars. “Follow me. One false move and you will die where you stand.” We follow the guard through the dark winding tunnels of the; as I look Compound; ten guards flank us on each side. I don’t know what they will think we can do with no weapons around I notice that most of the guards at the checkpoints to different sectors are new. They all sport the same tattoo on their faces as well, the eye of Horus. I see now that Ramses has taken over the Compound for his own uses; I wonder how the council feels about this, I wonder how the leader of my Coven, Vincent feels about this.

Finally we stop in front of a massive oak door, polished to a shine. As the door opens before us, I am surmised to see a finely furnished room that looks more like it belongs in some ones home, than far underground. A marble fireplace, with a roaring fire stewing in its hearth gives the room a warm welcoming glow. Thick Persian carpets line the stone floors; classic paintings in gilded frames decorate the walls. Behind a long desk littered with papers, and one large flat screen computer, sits Ramses. He is dressed impeccably in a dark suit, ruby cuff links gleaming at his wrists; a calm grin plastered on his face. Our handcuffs are taken off and we are pushed down onto crimson velvet couch placed a few feet in front of Ramses desk. “Leave us.” “But sir,” One of the guards spits out. “Leave us!” Ramses growls at them. Soon all that is left is the heavy tread of boots as the guards disappear down out of the hallway and back the way they came.

“Finally, guards really ruin the calm atmosphere I endeavor to produce here. Let’s get down to business, now shall we? You two have something I want, and you both know what it is.” Kenji glances at me and I look at the floor, I'm trying to think of a way to revise the plan since Ramses, has so foolishly decided, to trust us in his presence without the protection of guards. I have no idea what we should do or if we should do anything at all. “If you will excuse me for a moment, I have something to show you. When Ramses leaves through a door behind his desk Kenji turns to me, “We must act now, there is no time to waste. If I don’t sense any immediate danger I will strike at once.” Ramses returns with a black bag in his hands, he walks around his desk and places the bag in my hand. This is for you Eva, a present for all your hard work in Egypt. I accept the bag without opening it; it rests heavily in my lap. “Open it, don’t be shy my dear.” I pull the tassels apart and the bag slowly falls away; in my lap sits the severed head of the Leader of my coven Vincent. His face is porcelain gray; a look of surprise is frozen in his eyes. A tear falls from my eyes as I stare into the eyes of one of my oldest comrades and friends. I place the head slowly on the floor near my feet and cover the face with the black bag. I say nothing my face is stone; all I want to do is rip Ramses head from his body and throw it into the fire place. I can only imagine the fates of the others who once lived and served here. I place my palms flat on my knees to keep from balling them into fists. “Now that you have had my present dear Eva, I guess I can ask you now the question that has been plaguing me these many days. Where the hell is Isis? I want to know her exact location and I want to know now.”

Kenji smiles a deadly smile filled with unsaid threats. “You think that your threats will get you what you want Ramses? I am willing to die to protect Isis; is there anyone you are willing to die for Ramses?” Ramses unclips his cufflinks, then his suit jacket come off, followed by his expensive shirt. He sits now with his well muscled torso glowing in the firelight his face dark, his eyes gleam with menace. “I will die for no one, but those who do not follow me and live under my rule will surely die.” With this Ramses pushes his chair back and stands, his wings burst forth from behind him with a rush of air that pushes us back in our seats.

I have never seen wings of that size on anything in all my life; they have to be eight feet in length. Each feather is long black, and flecked through with gold; He stands with his head high and his fangs growing in length; they drip with saliva and poison. Kenji does not look surprised at all by this transformation, and I know why, it is just as he said; Ramses would reveal himself to us, because he is prideful. As I watch him standing there Regal and dreadful, I know that he must be killed, if he were to have the power he seeks, vampires wouldn’t be the only ones doomed.

“You will tell me what I wish to know, and you will tell me now. I tire of waiting; I tire of your silence.” In a rush of feather and air he is upon us, his hands wrapped around the neck of Kenji. Kenji suddenly dissolves to mist and Ramses is left holding nothing but air. Ramses looks around the room his fangs bared; I reached into my hair and withdraw the silver blades Kenji twisted into a few well placed braids. Each blade is sharp as a diamond and dangerous to vampire and angel alike.  I fly onto Ramses back as he searches the room for Kenji. His wings flap around me and I feel like I am caught in a tornado the sound is deafening. I hold on digging my heels into his sides. I slice the blade through the bone of his left wing and then his right. They fall to the ground with a great thud. Ramses lets out a ferocious roar as great thick black drops of blood ooze from the place his wings used to be. I drop to the floor and toss his wings into the fire; I watch as the go up in a cloud of black smoke. Ramses turns towards me his face full of hate, he pulls a blade from his belt and holds it high; suddenly Kenji appears to my left, I see he’s been busy while he was gone. He has a machine gun in one hand and a pistol in the other. Kenji tosses me the machine gun, I catch it one handed, and take aim at Ramses. The bullets tear into him, but it only slows him down a little. The gun clicks as I press the trigger I’m out of rounds. Kenji is by my side before I can blink I pull the two stiletto blades from my waist band, we charge Ramses together. I go low Kenji goes high,; a tearing stab to the knees, blood spurts and hits my face. Kenji stabs him in the arm and rips the blade back towards him. Ramses grabs me and hurls me across the room into a bookcase, glass and wood shatter around me as I slither to the ground. Kenji is too fast for him, as I watch from the floor; Kenji turns and delivers a bone splintering kick with his heel to Ramses jaw.
