“Adam that’s so good” He groaned loudly as he felt me clench him, pulse after pulse of pleasure
pouring over me. One more thrust and he found his own release, instead of collapsing on top of me
he hovered over me stroking my now damp hair from my face.
“I love you so much Leah, thank you for loving me too” I stared deep into his blue eyes, mesmerised
by the intensity of his words. I reached up to him and pulled him down to me taking his mouth in
mine, I kissed him softly slowly and lovingly.
“I love you too, I have never been happier despite this past week. You have no idea how it has felt
for me, being unloved for so many years. I didn’t know what I had been missing until I found you. So
ditto Mr Richmond, thank you for loving me.” We kissed some more then dozed for a while.
An hour later I was in the shower washing away the remains of our lovemaking and relishing the
cleansing feeling the warm water gave me. Ever since the attack I had this overriding feeling of
grubbiness that I couldn’t dispel. How rape victims ever coped with that astounded me, if this was
what attempted rape did to you then I truly was lucky. I thought for a long time under the cascading
water.
My mother must have felt this way every time she slept with a punter. Sex with a stranger was a
violation, especially when you felt like there was no other choice. No one was there to help my
mum; she was a runaway teen and should have had support to avoid the trappings of prostitution. I
felt like I needed to do something positive from my experience. I know if I ever won the lottery I
would set up a charity, or a safe house for teen girls to find peace until they could work things out at
home. It should be run by a charity or something, I would talk to Gordon, see if he could convince
the editor. I was golden girl at the moment maybe he would help set up a foundation.
Adam came looking for me. I must have been a while; he turned off the water and dried me tenderly
with a towel. After wards I slipped on my robe and trotted obediently after him to the kitchen where
I was treated to waffles bacon and syrup.
“Yum Adam this is heaven, I am starved” He grinned happy to see all my appetites returning, I told
him about my idea for a foundation, and he actually thought it was a wonderful idea. It gave me the
confidence to approach my boss. I would wait until I had finished the Victor article first, it was
almost ready apart from writing up the match and Dimitri’s goal, and it would be a fitting end to the
story of his success.
We spent the rest of the morning relaxing in front of the television, we played connect four then I
spanked him at Black Jack. It was fun it was easy, a perfect way to spend a Sunday. I had a text from
Dimitri telling me his mum was worried about me, she would contact me during the week to have a
girlie night out. Victor apparently felt I was a good influence on her; I made her happy so he
approved of us meeting. I texted back, I said how much I would love to spend more time with
Alexandra. Ray came home at three o’clock and he and Adam set about making a roast dinner for us
all. I was not allowed to help so amused myself with a game of solitaire.
Gordon rang me later on to tell me to check my email. A copy of tomorrow’s article needed my
approval. I booted up my lap top and checked it over. Dan had done a really good job, just enough
information to get peoples interest and not enough to make me the subject of further unsavoury
gossip. Seeing my mum’s name Selina Lovell (Fellows) in print was emotional, I hoped there may be
someone out there who would recognise her as we were putting an old photo alongside. The photo
was of my mum as a girl before she ran away, leaning on her bicycle. It made me realise how young
she was when she had me, still a young teen. Selina Fellows had a memorial now, maybe one day
she would get her justice.
Dinner was lovely, the beef slightly overdone but forgivable the Yorkshire puddings were perfect. I
had never mastered the art of a roast dinner, making sure everything was ready at the same time
wasn’t something I ever managed to do. The two men had done themselves proud. Despite the lazy
day I was still fatigued so Adam and I retired early, I needed to get a good night’s sleep ready for
work in the morning. I was asleep before Adam had got out of the shower. I was vaguely aware of
his fresh musky smell as he snuggled into my back, but I hadn’t the energy to say goodnight.
“I was minding my own business walking Alfie when I saw her. Such a pretty young thing crawling on
the floor, she was all battered and bruised made my heart swell, I wanted to take her home with me
and take care of her. Such a brave girl too I had no idea that monster was down there all curled up
crying like a baby, I would have liked to kick him too” I filled up with tears, how sweet. The article
went on to talk about my mum’s murder no details, just the location and the fact no one was ever
caught. It ended on a positive note with the plans to create a small garden around the bench, a place
where locals could sit and watch the boats go by.
“Good isn’t it? Your Bosic article will make front page too if the Editor likes it, you done good girl. We
are thrilled with your work so far and your dedication. Bring it to me when it’s finished and I will give
it the once over before we send it upstairs. Oh and by the way welcome back” I grinned at his back
as he went back into his room.
Half an hour later small tokens kept arriving on my desk. There were deliveries of chocolates,
flowers, cards and teddy bears. I could hardly see my computer for all the clutter. The biggest shock
was a card from Natalie, an apology for all the trouble she caused. She hoped we could perhaps be
friends one day. Yes Natalie like that will ever happen!
I picked up my laptop to move it over to my old desk when Gordon’s door was wrenched open and
he signalled me to go in. I sat in front of his desk as he forced himself to regain control. What the hell
was wrong?
“Leah for some reason Victor Bosic has pulled the story” I gasped my hand went to my mouth “I
don’t know what has happened but he flipped apparently. A security risk against his family or
something like that. They are all jumping ship, leaving the country in the next few days, all mobiles
switched of or disconnected. When I say disappearing that is exactly what I mean.” My head was
spinning. I was genuinely worried about them, who would want to hurt them?
“Try and find out what is going on, and if you can rescue the article do what you can. I am truly sorry
this has happened, for the second time we get blown off. I can’t tell you how pissed I am. Go and do
some detecting and keep me informed” I jumped up and went straight back to my desk. I grabbed
my phone to call Dimitri, his number was disconnected. Shit what now? Do I go to the house? If
there was a high risk security alert they wouldn’t let me near. So I called Adam.
“Hey Leah I was just about to call you, have you heard about Victor? It was the strangest thing ever,
we had an appointment this morning he was sat in my office then picked up the paper, he was
reading your article then his face went white. He dropped the paper stood up and rang Boris. I
couldn’t hear what was going on but he just said cancel the meeting, deals off I have to take my
family out of the country there is a security risk. Then he left, just like that, shit I have to go my dad’s
calling me he must have heard. Look I will speak to you later baby”
Sitting in my chair in shock I went over what Adam had said, he was reading the story about me
when he went white. Why would my story affect him so much? I had been so stupid and so blind. As
I suddenly put all the tiny pieces of the last few days together, the puzzle before me all clicked into
place. Victor had murdered my mother; she was his surrogate, although not willing as he had
claimed to Alexandra. He obviously hadn’t a clue who I was, but now he did he was terrified that I
would find out the truth and discover who Dimitri was? I shot out of my seat. Dimitri was Jake, he
was my brother!
I span around unsure what to do, there was only one thing to do, Victor was planning on getting his
family as far away from me as he could so Dimitri would never find out. I had to get to him before he
left. I called Adam again
“Look its chaos, we have been asked to put the Manchester house up for sale, from what I can
gather Dimitri will be requesting a transfer abroad. He has to go to the club to collect his things but
then he is flying out tonight or first thing tomorrow, that is all I know. Leah they are closely guarded
no calls being taken you won’t get near him. If you want to say goodbye write them a letter, it’s the
only way” I hung up. Yes a letter and I would deliver it to the ground making sure someone got it to
him who he would trust. I sat with my pen wondering how to word it, and then just decided to throw
caution to the wind and tell it like it was. He knew his father so he wouldn’t be all that shocked. He
would be upset about Alexandra but he loved her, she loved him they could survive this. So I wrote it
down before I lost my nerve.
I ran outside to my car and floored it to the stadium abandoning it on double yellows; I ignored the
shouts and ran in to the training centre straight to reception. I had my press card ready but luckily I
had met the girl on duty before.
“Will you give him this letter please, tell him it is from me and it is urgent. Don’t mention it to
anyone else, it has to be handed to him directly” I noticed her frown of disapproval, so I covered
myself “It is cash, we had a bet on Saturday’s game, I have lost so I owe him, and as he is going away
tonight I wanted to keep my end of the deal. Don’t want you united folks thinking us City fans are all
talk” she laughed taking my explanation at face value
“Sure no problem Leah I will be on duty so will see to it myself, take care won’t you. I saw the paper
this morning you are an inspiration to women you know, good for you. And good luck for the future”
I was touched by her comments and left feeling drained, I had done all I could I just prayed Dimitri
read the letter and that he would take it seriously. Otherwise I was back to square one with my
brother snatched away again.
I was mightily pissed, Dad calling the shots yet again. The bastard had shut down my damn phone. If
he expected me just to up and leave at his say so he had another thing coming. Boris was stalking me
like a hawk that was irritating me too. I needed to lose him, work out what had happened this
morning to make the man, Victor so scared that we had to run away. As usual he told me nothing, so
what if there was a security risk, we had them before. Why was this one different? I was pacing my
flat wondering what to do, I loved playing for United, I was building some good friendships. Adam
and I were bonding. And as for Leah she had made my mother start playing the piano again. She had
a smile on her face for the first time in a long time. I had watched my mum become a shell of her
former self these past few years. Meeting Leah had made her see life was for living especially when
you had friends.
I didn’t want to leave and I didn’t want to change clubs. I wouldn’t go without a fight, I knew how
powerful my father was though and he always got his own way. This time I was an adult and could
speak for myself. I needed to go to the club and collect my things anyway; the season was over so
the ground was shutting down for a few weeks. I went out to my Lamborghini, cursing that I would
have to sell that too. My father had a lot of explaining to do, he had disappeared to London, leaving
mum to sort out our belongings. Typical dad offload on to her, I would call round and give her a
hand. I revved the engine and drove to Old Stretford; it took only a few minutes as traffic was nonexistent today.
Virginia was on duty at Reception, I liked her, and she was my type. Small dark and curvy, I had
planned on getting her number but with no phone that would be a hard task. She smiled at me, her
face lighting up as usual. I got the feeling she liked me too, I went up to say hi when she handed me
something
“Getting cash from a City fan always a pleasure. Virginia, I was planning on getting your number but
my phone is knackered. Would you let me have it anyway and when I have a replacement I could call
you?” She blushed furiously which made me smile, she really was lovely. She scribbled it down and I
tucked it into my pocket and walked away with a spring in my step. That there was another reason I
had to stay.
My locker was pretty clean but I took what was left, putting it all in my duffle bag. I looked at the
envelope from Leah, and decided I needed to read it now, while I was not being watched by the
huge Russian thug following me. I sat on the bench wondering why Leah had to lie about the
contents. Suddenly very curious I tore it open.
I am sure you know about my mother; she was a prostitute and was murdered in a car park in
Burnage. What nobody knows is that when I was in the car waiting for my mum, I was in there with
my baby brother. A man took him away and left me alone, I think that man was Boris. I also think
that the person who killed my mother was Victor. Our flat was burned and anyone who knew of my
brother’s existence is dead. Nobody believed a baby was ever there so for eighteen years I kept quiet.
Recently a friend of mine looked into it for me but was warned off and involved in a hit and run.
Dimitri I think you are my brother.
