Chapter 5

It’s Showtime,
Pam thought to herself as she frantically waved Nate into the house. She had her cell phone clutched in her hand while pacing and pretending to scroll through an email. She had already answered the bogus call from Earl and freaked out in front of Marie.

“What’s wrong,” Nate asks as he stops in front of Pam and pulls her into his arms.

“I had a huge contract in Aspen. They wanted a specific coloring for the model; Asia is my only grey-eyed model with dark hair. She just called my assistant to let her know that she is in the hospital with food poisoning. She needed to be on site by eight o’clock this evening,” Pam whines, really giving it her all.

Marie steps forward wringing her hands. “I told her I would do it for her, but you guys haven’t cleared me for travel,” Marie says while looking between Jas and Nate with concern in her eyes.

Jasper smiles internally. Of course Marie had offered to do it. Her big heart was one of the things he loved about her.

His smile grows wider. This is it. This has to be what the old men have planned. James had grounded all travel for Marie until she could be assigned a security detail he trusts. James had to since Rita is out on maternity leave and Marie at times gets it in her head to take off without her detail. Jasper laughs to himself with that thought as well.

Marie had started to slip her security detail when they first started their secret relationship. He had been so in love with her then, but if he had any chance of being on her detail no one could know how he felt. It had crushed him when all their sneaking around had been for nothing. He was still sent to Greece to be without her.

Nate presses his lips in thought then looks at Jas. “I know we don’t usually do this and it’s against company policy, but we’ve done it before in a crunch. I know you. You would put your life on the line for Marie. I’ll clear it with James and if Marcus is okay with me switching you out for a few days, you can go with her,” Nate says thoughtfully.

“Oh,” Marie gasps.

Jas looks at her and searches her face. He lifts a brow when she gives him a coy smile. It isn’t just a coy smile; it has something dirty and promising behind it. Jasper shifts on his feet as his cock starts to stir.

“It’s fine with me,” Jasper shrugs letting his plans click into place in his head. His father had specifically asked him for a report on the weather in Aspen just this morning.

Marie wouldn’t be running anywhere once they got to this so called modeling gig. Jasper turns to scan the house for his father. Everyone had started to make their way into the house.

His eyes land on not only his father, but his Uncle Thomas and James as well. His father gives him a grin and the three lift their cognacs at him. Jasper bites his lip to stifle a laugh. These three are always up to something.

Chapter 6

“So you let my father and Uncle Earl talk you into helping out with their plan,” Nate chuckles later that evening as he kisses Tiffany and Tracey on the forehead.

Chapter 7

“Wow, it got crazy out there so fast,” Marie gasps as she rushes forward into the cabin that was secured for her for the next few days.

Marie starts to worry that she isn’t going to make it to the shoot after all. Pam had already sent her a text to say the shoot was postponed a few hours because of the coming storm. It was meant to be a late night shoot, but Marie was starting to doubt it would happen at all, which was fine with her. Marie had plans of her own.

What started as a few flurries as they landed and loaded into the SUV, turned into a full out blizzard. Jasper had opted to drive instead of using a hired driver. They were lucky to have made it to the cabin when they did.

Jasper had kept her busy with music and laughter as they rode through the blankets of snow. She had been nervous that they wouldn’t make it, but, as usual, nothing fazed Jas. It was one of the things she loved about him. She had only once ever seen him lose it.

“She’s gone,” Jas sobbed into her belly.

Marie held him in her arms. Jasper had come to the house after James and Minnie had gone to the Briggs estate next door. She was still in shock. When they had told her to stay home, she just nodded her head. Raquel had meant so much to all of them.

Jasper tightened his hold around her waist as they stood in the middle of her bedroom. He was on his knees where he had fallen when he could go no further. He had wrapped his arms around her and buried his face in her belly as he let it all out.

She had just thrown him the largest eighteenth birthday party ever, all because his dad had to go away on assignment. Earl had to just cancel everything he and Jas had planned.

“I’m sorry Jas,” Marie whispered as she ran her fingers through his blonde locks.

“I…I …I can’t breathe,” Jasper gasped into her stomach. Her heart twisted for him.

Marie sank to her knees and cupped his face looking into his green eyes. They were red and full of tears that wouldn’t stop spilling over. He was still gasping for air.

“Look at me, Jas. I need you to breathe. Just take a deep breath,” Marie was starting to panic when she saw he was not responding. He was completely losing it.

She didn’t know what to do. That is when the dumbest idea popped in her head, but as he started to turn red, she went with it. Reaching for the collar of his shirt with one hand she tugged him forward and planted a kiss on his lips.

Jas didn’t react at first, but after a few seconds his hands were in her hair and he was kissing her back. As his tongue pried her mouth open, Marie could taste the salt of his tears. Jasper groaned into her mouth as he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her body to his.

“I love you,” Jasper had broken the kiss to murmur against her lips.

Marie gasped in shock. She had a crush on Jasper since they were little. She’d been trying to run behind Marcus and Sam, dropping her ice cream cone in the process. She couldn’t have been more than six. Jasper had run over and handed her his cone before wiping her tears with the hem of his own t-shirt. He’d taken her to the backyard to push her on a swing instead of her trying to run after the older boys, spending the rest of the day with her and Rita.

From there she had only fallen deeper in love with him.

Jasper pulled her back to him and captured her lips again. He knew Bobby, Sam, Marcus, and Nate would kick his ass, but he had been in love with Marie all his life. His Aunt Raquel was the only one he had ever confided that fact to and she was now taking it to the grave.

Marie remembered they had talked and kissed all night as she comforted him. Other than the night he called her to tell her how wronged he felt Jasper had always been cool as a cucumber.

Thoughts of what she had packed especially for this trip made her blush. This was it; she had sent a text to see if she was the only one that thought she was ready to do this. Her mentor had told her it was time.

After that text, Marie went right to her closet for the case she had kept hidden from everyone. The case her mentor had given her for the day she would reveal the truth. Marie shivered at the thought.

“Hey, are you cold,” Jasper asks walking over to her, rubbing his hands over her arms. She looks up into his eyes, finding herself lost. “I’ll start a fire and then I’ll see what we have to eat.”

“Okay,” Marie smiles up at him. “I’m going to go find a room and freshen up.”

Jas didn’t reply. She would find out soon enough that there was only one bedroom in this cabin though it was spacious. The old men had thought of everything. Jasper pressed his lips as he wondered what her reaction was going to be.

Shaking it off, he moves to the kitchen in search of food. He knew the place was well stocked. He was just going to find the perfect meal to make for what could be one of the most important nights of their lives.
