When piece measures 9½” from beginning make a 3–stitch buttonhole every 6".

BUTTONHOLE

Work 3 sts in seed. Leaving yarn on the right, slip 2 sts, pass 1st st over 2nd st (PSSO), slip 1 more st, PSSO, slip 1 more st, PSSO.

Turn work, move remaining st onto left–hand needle.

Cable cast on 3 sts.

Turn work and continue to last 17 sts. Split work for pocket opening.

Attach another ball of yarn, continue with two balls of yarn until split measures 6". Then rejoin the two pieces and continue with one ball of yarn only.

When piece measures
20½”
bind off for armhole same as for back, but on one side only.

LAPELS

Change from stockinette to seed every other row 7x = 10 sts in seed. Then start increasing 1 st every other row 9x= 19 sts in seed.

When armhole measures 5½” bind off at the neck edge 17 sts 1x.

Bind off 3 sts 1x.

Every other row bind off 2 sts 2x.

Bind off 1 st 8x. When piece measures the same as back put remaining 12 sts on stitch holder.

Make another front, reversing shapings and making a buttonhole 17½” from start of work.

COLLAR

Pick up and knit 49 sts.

Work in seed stitch. Increase 1 st at each end of needle every other row.

Work until collar measures 3½”

Bind off loosely in seed stitch.

POCKETS

Pick up approximately 20 sts on the edge of pocket. Work in seed stitch for 1 inch.

SLEEVES

Cast on 31 (33) sts.

Work in seed stitch for 3 rows.

Change to stockinette.

Increase 1 st at each end on needle every 10th row 5x = 41 (43) sts.

When sleeve measures 17” or desired length bind off 3 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.

Bind off 2 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.

K2tog at each end of needle every other row 3x (4x).

When cap measures 6½” bind off 2 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.

Bind off 3 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.

Bind off remaining 15 sts.

FINISHING

Sew side seams, insert sleeves, sew on buttons. Make two pocket linings.

ROW 4:
Same as row 2.

ROW 5:
Same as row 1.

ROW 6:
P1 tbl ∗ K1, P1 tbl ∗ to end.

ROW 8:
Same as row 6.

Repeat rows 1 through 8 for pattern.

BACK

Cast on 69 sts.

Proceed in pattern until piece measures 12” or desired length.

ARMHOLE SHAPING

Bind off 4 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.

Bind off 2 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.

K2tog at each end of needle every other row 4x.

When armhole measures 8½” put all sts on stitch holder.

FRONTS

Make 2 pieces, reversing all shapings.

Cast on 35 sts. Work in pattern to armhole.

Shape armhole on one side only. At the same time shape neck.

K2tog at neck edge, then alternately (every 2nd row, every 3rd row) 12x more.

When armhole measures same as back put all sts on holder.

SLEEVE

Cast on 35 sts. Increase 1 st at each end of needle every 10th row 5x (45 sts).

When sleeve measures 17” or desired length bind off 4 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.

Bind off 2 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.

K2tog every other row 5x.

When cap measures 6” bind off 2 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.

Bind off 3 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.

Bind off remaining 13 sts at once.

FINISHING

Join shoulder seams with a three–needle bind–off.

Sew seams. Insert sleeves.

Single crochet for 2 rows, making buttonholes evenly spaced on the 3rd row. The 1st one is approximately ½

from bottom.

Single crochet for 2 rows followed with 1 row of reverse crochet around the whole sweater.

Cast on 60 sts. Work in pattern as follows:

Repeat rows 1 through 8 for pattern.

Increase 1 st at each end of needle every 4” 3x (66 sts). Continue until piece measures 24". Put all sts on stitch holder.

 

BACK

Repeat same as front.

FINISHING

Sew both seams. With size 9 circular needles pick up sts left on holders. Join, careful not to twist the sts. Purl 1 row across all sts. K1, P1 for 1". Purl 1 row. P1, K1 for 1". Fold band and sew, leaving a 1” opening. Thread elastic through.

ARMHOLE SHAPING

Bind off 3 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Bind off 2 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Knit 2 sts together at beginning and end of needle every other row 2x. When armhole measures 8½” put all sts on stitch holder.

FRONT

Proceed same as back until armhole measures 5½". Bind off the center 8 sts. Attach another ball of yarn, then every other row bind off 2 sts 2x, 1 st 1x.
