The orgasm was so intense, I felt like I was floating, having an outer body experience as I came down from the high of the release.

Strong arms lifted me before placing me on the bed as a warm body covered mine.

My eyes grew heavy when a deep chuckle sounded in my ear.

“How was that?” Brett asked, pushing his hips between my legs.

I ran my hands down his back, scratching my nails into his skin. “Best. Orgasm. Ever.”

“Good.” His tongue licked up the side of my neck before delving into my mouth.

I swallowed the sweet taste of my juices mixed with the saltiness of his previous release and lifted my hips as he lowered into me.

His movements were slow but deep.

I moaned, my muscles jumping, my core pulsing. A tingle spread through my center and I whimpered.

“That’s it. I want you with me,” he breathed against my mouth.

My nails dug into the hard muscles of his back as we came together. We swallowed each other’s sounds of ecstasy as our bodies moved as one.

I sighed in bliss, running my hands down his sweat slicked back.

He chuckled and placed a hard kiss on my lips before releasing me completely.

I watched as he rose from the bed and righted his pants.

He pulled me into his arms, wrapping the blanket around me and placed his laptop on my lap. “I want to show you what I’ve been working on.”

A couple of clicks later, an advertisement popped up on the screen.

My breath caught in my throat and I looked up at him before glancing back at the screen.

He smiled lightly.

“Anything I can do to help?” I asked, pulling the blanket tighter around us.

“Just you being there beside me is all the help I need,” he said, shutting his lap top closed. His eyes took on a faraway look.

My heart hurt, wishing I could take away his pain. My mom had died from cancer. Natural causes. I couldn’t even begin to imagine what he and his sister had gone through. Having both of your parents die due to a drunk driver hitting them was something you could never get over.

“Are you okay?” I asked, cupping his cheek.

“Yeah,” he answered, his voice thick as he placed the computer back on the nightstand.

Tears burned my eyes.

“Hey, Evvie, don’t.” He kissed me on the nose. “You’ve cried enough over me.”

I shook my head. “This is different.”

“Stop. I can’t deal. Even though it was years ago, it still…” he swallowed. “It fucking hurts.”

With a shaky breath, I wrapped my arms around his neck, holding him. Pouring the love I felt for this man into my touch.

“Thank you,” he whispered.

I leaned back. “For what?”

“For being you. For not leaving even though I can be a dick.”

“I love you,” I said, cupping his face in my hands. “I’m sure I’m not the easiest person to get along with either.”

He scoffed. “Evvie, you are perfect.”

I laughed. “I’m many things but perfect is not one of them.”

Brett’s eyebrows narrowed as he grabbed my wrists. “You are perfect for me. You’re still here even after all the shit I’ve put you through.”

My stomach clenched. “I love you. We both make mistakes. You thought you were looking out for me but realized that you needed me more.”

“I couldn’t deal with any of this without you. I’m…I’m not strong enough,” he mumbled and looked away.

I sighed and brushed a thumb over his bottom lip. I didn’t know how to make him see reason. How to make him not be so hard on himself. Maybe there was something wrong with me that I still stuck around but I loved him. It was all consuming, all powerful, like he told me when we first started seeing each other. “I’m not leaving you, Brett.”

He nodded slightly. “I know.” He took a breath. “I know that.”

Did he? “No matter what. This?” I motioned between us. “Is strong. Permanent.”

He looked away, his jaw clenching.

“Brett,” I demanded.

His eyes twinkled as he met my gaze.

“Don’t look at me like that.”

He raised an eyebrow. “Like what?”

I kissed him hard. “With doubt in your eyes.”

He laid us down, pulled off his pants and wrapped his arms around me. Bringing the blanket up and around us, he held me tight, pressing his body against mine. “It would destroy me if you left me,” he whispered into my hair.

“Stop. I’m here. I’m always here. I’m not leaving.” I grabbed his hand, pulling him tighter around me. I would crawl under his skin if I could. Curling up into a little ball in the corner of his warmth. He was my safe place. My forever. My one. My only.

“I couldn’t deal with the shit about my mom either if it wasn’t for you,” he mumbled, his voice getting heavy from sleep.

“I’m here, Brett. You’re safe.”

His body relaxed as he kissed my shoulder. His breathing eventually turning deep and even.

I lay awake, staring at the ceiling as I listened to the sounds of Brett’s hot breath against my neck.

I loved the man that had his body wrapped around me. His hold on me was tight, like he thought he would wake up and I would be gone. Never. I was his. I knew that now.

TEN

I brought our nightly bath time ritual to Mexico with us. Except there, the tub was huge and I could sit across from Brett. My body leaned against the white cool basin. The scent of lavender and vanilla invaded my nostrils, a sigh of bliss leaving my lips.

“Do you know how hard it is to control myself when you’re sitting there naked and soapy?” he said, holding my foot in his hands. He brought it up to his mouth and nibbled my heel.

I giggled. “This is our time, remember? No sex.” I enjoyed just spending moments like this with him. We had our issues but it was like as soon as we were together in our bath, all thoughts of the outside world left us.

Brett grinned, his blue eyes twinkling. “But if it turned into a shower, then we can?”

“Yes.” Those were the rules. Even if we didn’t talk and just sat there, there was no sex allowed in our baths together. Call it lame or corny, but we needed this. A relationship couldn’t be based on physical needs. I knew that and so did he, even though he wanted to deny it.

“Are you having a good vacation?” he asked, pushing his thumb into the arch of my foot.

A moan escaped my lips. “Yes. You?”

He winked. “Oh yes.”

My cheeks heated and I shook my head. It was a week into our vacation and although he hadn’t wanted me to get touched by the sun, my pale skin was a little tender. But it was darkening nicely into a light tan so I didn’t feel so much like a ghost.

There had been no sign of Stefan since our first encounter with him. We had stuck to the beach and our room, getting room service whenever we were hungry. Brett got enjoyment from feeding me or eating the food off of me and I was saddened with the fact that one more week and this would be over.

***

The next morning after breakfast, we decided to head down to the beach. Lathering on the sunscreen, I had a moment of jealousy that Brett’s skin could golden and mine would burn. Damn my blonde hair and blue eyes. My brother’s? Nope, they had no issues tanning at all. I was the unfortunate one.

“Swim?” Brett asked, rubbing the cream on my shoulders.

I shook my head. “I think I want to read first.”

“I think we should swim first,” Brett said, grabbing my hand. His gaze travelled down my bathing suit clad body, heating my skin on fire.

I swallowed. I brought three bikinis with me to Mexico and after much debate over which one I would wear, I chose the sexy red one-piece. It still hardly covered anything but I told Brett that we would never have to see any of these people again after our trip. “I want to read. It’s a really good—”

“Lover, I will throw you over my shoulder if I have to. Either way, you’re going swimming,” he said, his voice firm.

I frowned, attempting to pull my hand from his grip. “I want to read and besides, you wouldn’t dare.”

A wicked smirk splayed on his face. He pinched my chin and brushed his mouth along mine before biting my bottom lip. “Try me.”

My heart fluttered. I playfully punched him in the stomach forcing him to let go of me.

An evil glint flashed in his eyes before he hooked an arm around my middle and threw me over his shoulder.

I squealed, gripping the waistband of his bathing suit shorts. “Brett, put me down!”

He chuckled and started jogging to the water. “I will.”

My cheeks heated as the chuckles sounded around us. Women giggled and I looked up as we neared the water.

Their gazes heated, jealousy soaring through the air.
Eat your hearts out girls. He’s mine.

“Brett, put me down please,” I said, smacking him on the ass.

“You
will
pay for that,” Brett growled, gripping my hips. He swatted my rear making me yelp. So he was allowed to smack my butt and not the other way around? I grinned. We’ll see about that. I repeatedly slapped his hard delicious ass when I was suddenly, thrown over his shoulders.

I landed in the cool body of water, coughing and sputtering as I choked down the salty water. Rising to the surface, I splashed Brett. “You are a douche monkey.”

He laughed and wrapped his arms around me. “Douche monkey? You can’t come up with something better, lover?”

I struggled in his grip. “Sorry. All the salt has clouded my judgment.”

“Well you’ll be calling me something else in a moment,” he said, swimming with me in his arms.

I wrapped my arms around his thick neck, holding on tight as he swam with me against him. “Oh? Like what?”

He winked. “Something like, Oh-Brett-yes-harder-harder-faster-you-are-amazing-you’re-a-fucking-God. Would that work?”

I tapped my chin. “Hmm…I don’t know.”

“Or how about, Yes-Brett-Oh-yes-harder-fuck-me-harder-make-me-scream,” he said, raising his voice to imitate me.

I rolled my eyes and giggled. “I do not sound like that.”

“No? Then tell me, Evvie, what do you sound like?”

“Oh-yes-yes-wait-you’re-done-already? How’s that?” I laughed.

His eyes darkened making my breath catch. “Are you challenging me, my sweet Evvie?”

“Now why would I ever do such a thing?” I teased.

“You won’t be asking me why I’m done already in a moment. With my cock buried deep between your creamy thighs, you’ll be begging me to stop.” He placed a hard kiss on my lips, not giving me a chance to process his words. “You’ll be screaming my name so hard, your voice will go raw.”

“Hmm…sounds like a good idea,” I breathed against his mouth. “I like this playful side of you,” I whispered.

He grinned and cupped my ass before wrapping my legs around his waist. “You bring out the best in me,” he whispered.

I placed a soft peck on his mouth when I was pressed up against a rocky wall. Looking around us, I realized that we had swum around the bend. The waves moved against us, hitting hard against the side of the small mountain.

“Is this safe, Brett?” I asked, squeezing my thighs tight around him.

“Don’t worry, lover. I got you.”

My heart gave a start. His words meaning more than just at that moment. I cupped his cheeks, staring intently into his deep blue eyes. “And I got you.”

His mouth crashed to mine.

I reached between us, pulling his rigid length from his swimming trunks. Pushing my bathing suit bottoms to the side, I lowered my body onto him.

He groaned, pushing into me with the added force of the waves.

“Brett,” I breathed against his mouth.

His hold on my waist tightened.

I gasped, an eruption of pleasure exploding inside of me. Cries of ecstasy escaped my lips, the sounds of the ocean swallowing my screams.

***

“Where are we going?” I asked Brett as the black town car drove us through Cancun.

His hold on my hand tightened. “I have a surprise for you.”

“Really?” We were leaving the next day. What kind of surprise could he have for me so close to the end of our trip?

He winked and placed a soft kiss on my forehead. “We’re here.” he said.

I turned and looked out the window. My eyes widened. A large white building stood before us, sporting
Rouge L’amour,
on
a
sign in red neon letters.

“Is this...yours?” I asked Brett in awe.

He grinned. “It’s actually ours.”

“Really?” I gaped at him.
Ours?

“I was serious about wanting to spend the rest of my life with you, Evvie.” He brushed his knuckles down my cheek before pinching my chin.

My heart stuttered at his words. “I can’t believe you opened another club and in Mexico of all places.”

“This place is booming. The tourists rolling in constantly will make us a killing.”

The way he said
us
made my heart skip a beat. There was no way that I could accept this though. How could I pay him back? “Why do you do it?” He clearly didn’t need the money. It’s not like he was poor or anything.

He rubbed his strong fingers along his jaw and thought a moment.

“I’m sorry. That was rude—”

“No. It wasn’t. I honestly don’t care about the money. I get a thrill out of making people happy.” His eyes twinkled. “To have people spend time in my clubs is almost as satisfying as you having an orgasm. That’s how much I like being in control.”

My body hummed. I would never get used to his constant references to sex. I watched him as he looked out the window, glancing around us. His body was relaxed as he let out a deep breath.

He looked back at me. “What?”

My cheeks heated at being caught staring. “I’m proud of you.”

His eyebrow rose. “You’re proud of me?”
