Reading Group Discussion Questions

1.   What do you think about Lacey and Eric’s marriage? How does their relationship change through the story?

2.   How do their different backgrounds affect their ability to communicate with each other?

3.   Why is Lacey so reluctant to leave the house, long after she knows how dangerous it is?

4.   Do you think Ella Dane Kendall is truly psychic, or is she pretending? If she is psychic, why can’t she see Drew?

5.   Drew has killed many children and young mothers over the years. What does he want from them, and why is it so difficult for him to get it?

6.   Lacey knows she can save her family by moving out of the house and renting it to someone else. Why won’t she do this?

7.   Lacey sees herself only as she relates to other people, as a teacher, daughter, wife, and mother. She even perceives her professional persona, the teacher voice, as a separate mind, not really herself. Is there a true, integrated self inside her? If so, where in the story does this self appear? And if not, what is she?

8.   What do you think these characters will be doing five years from now? Will Eric and Lacey still be married? Will they be living in 571 Forrester Lane?
