“You never met Draykon.” Adriana sobbed at the image.
Paul put his arms around Adriana, “Draykon has no leverage over him this time. Not even the Titans and the Gods of Olympus could harm him now.”
Adriana chuckled and dried her eyes. “Do you think he'll be OK? Do you think he'll be back?
“I know he'll be OK! I know he'll be back!” Paul kissed her cheek and ruffled her hair, “Come on you, we have to get you back to work.” Paul smiled affectionately at Adriana and they started to walk back into town.
When they arrived back at the supermarket Paul said that he was going to buy a couple of boxes of Monster Ripper for when Draylon returns. Adriana said that Paul shouldn't be encouraging him and laughed. Adriana disappeared out the back of the shop, and when she returned she had two boxes, a total of twenty-four cans of Draylon's favourite drink. Paul reached into his pocket for money and Adriana said not to worry, that she would pay for them, it was the least she could do. Paul wrapped his arms around her, “It's great seeing you again Adriana,” he kissed her cheek and bid her farewell. Adriana said, “Don't leave it so long next time. Maybe I'll see you tomorrow,” she smiled and walked off into the rear of the shop.
Paul made his way back home to his flat carrying the two boxes of energy drinks, which were becoming increasingly heavy. When he arrived he put the drinks in the fridge and then sat down on his sofa to relax. After a short while Paul decided that he would take a leaf out of Draylon's book and go for a short run, he thought maybe he would even give his yellow Suzuki a wash on his return. Then he changed his mind and opted for a lazy afternoon listening to his MP3 player.
Draylon could see as clear as day. All of the grey alien craft had coalesced and they were just miles from him now. He estimated nigh on one hundred craft and started to panic. He slipped off the ring and placed it in his pocket. He didn't know what to do.
A flash of light caught Draylon's eye. He looked up, and on the horizon he could see metallic saucer shapes, the sunlight reflecting off their shiny surfaces. Draylon thought it was like the Greek ships arriving at Troy to do battle. He was frozen and he didn't know what to do. Time passed slowly and the ships were gaining ground filling the sky. Draylon whispered to himself, “This is it then,” and then flew into the sky, level with the oncoming craft. Draylon readied himself, his eyes an awesome blue, his muscles tense and his anger flaring.
He flew at the leading metallic disc, rammed his hands into the underneath to get a hold and then threw it with brutal force into another craft. They exploded with fierce brightness and a deafening din taking out another three craft as they went down in flames. Craft were all around him now. Draylon held out his hand to create a blue force field and then spun so that the shield would envelop him thus protecting him from all sides. The saucers started to blast at him. Draylon knew he had only seconds left, as he couldn't keep the shield up for much longer. His strength started to give way.
All of a sudden the blasting stopped, Draylon took a breath. The grey alien craft started to retreat. A tremendous shadow started to creep up the canyon behind him. Draylon started to turn fearing the worst.
It was the pale greens. Draylon couldn't believe it. He was in awe and felt a surge of excitement. The pale green craft were bigger than those of the greys, they were slower but had the same ferocious fire power. Draylon smiled and saluted them. Draylon could hear Brandlin's voice communicating telepathically, he said “Greeting's Draylon, good to see you well, I see we are just in time.” With that the greens flew into battle. Draylon calculated over one hundred craft, the greys were outnumbered.
The greys came on strong again, the onslaught was brutal. Several of the greens craft went down tearing to shreds on the rocky ground. Draylon flew into battle blocking with his blue force field and attacking using his telekinetic powers to their full. He was throwing craft against the canyon walls like toys. All of a sudden Draylon took a hit from two grey craft that sent him crashing to the ground unconscious. Brandlin's craft intervened with unrelenting aggression blasting the two grey craft and blowing them to smithereens.
The sky was smoke filled, the battle was violent, neither green nor grey giving way. Draylon recovered and shot into the sky getting a hold on one of the grey craft and hurling it, knocking down a further three like dominos. The greens were starting to gain ground. They formed up like a giant arrowhead and cut through the greys tearing them to shreds, the greys were outnumbered now by many.
The greys started to withdraw. As they turned many were shot down, the others retreated at great speed. The greens gave chase but they were too fast. Brandlin ordered his remaining seventy-two craft to give up chase and return to the canyon. Draylon met with Brandlin on the ground.
“Thank you Brandlin, I thought I'd met my end for a while there.”
“You are welcome Draylon, it was sweet retribution, and they had it coming.”
Draylon slipped on his ring, “They have left Earth, none now remain, I estimate twenty at max survived the onslaught, do you think they'll be back?”
“They'll be back, but maybe not for a while.” Brandlin put his hand on Draylon's shoulder, “The future is unwritten now and this is your destiny. Maybe you can avert this happening in future and convince the greys to leave Earth alone.”
“That would be nice. For now I believe we have a lot of cleaning up to do, hopefully nobody saw this. At least if we leave no evidence, then if someone did see, it'll be just another UFO sighting.”
“Leave this to us my friend. It is our gift to you. And this is goodbye for now, as we will be leaving shortly, although I am sure that our paths will meet again.”
“I will miss you Brandlin. I am forever indebted to you my friend.” Draylon put his hand on Brandlin's shoulder and smiled. “Oh, just one more thing, what is the God gene?”
“The God gene is a part of you and only you so far as we know. We used it to create the amulet. It was one of the most protected items on our planet. It was found many years ago in a metallic vial in caves of ice. Nobody knows where it came from originally, whether it was created in a lab or extracted from a God like being. We tested it rigorously, our best scientists for many generations studied it until we finally realised what it could do. It was protected by the absolute highest of security for years. Then one of our most respected elders had a twofold premonition, the destruction of our planet and the coming of Draylon, an alien-human hybrid that would be the saviour of humanity. Our kind nurtured human life on Earth and sought to educate and protect them. Therefore the choice was quite simple, as a legacy we created an amulet that would enable you to serve and protect Earth. The demise of our planet was unavoidable, we hold strong to our ability of prophecy, it has always served us well. And here you are as living testimony.”
“I am honoured, thank you! What are my capabilities now? The new powers that I possess are still new to me.”
“Your original abilities would be amplified on a massive scale and also you have the ability of flight. You can create a shield like an impenetrable aura, and you are virtually invulnerable. You will live for a very long time, not to mention that you will have inherited our gift of prophecy also. The amulet was a mix of the God gene and genetic material of our own.”
“I do not feel worthy of such a gift, but I will not let you down, you have my word.” Draylon smiled.
Brandlin smiled back at Draylon, “You take care of yourself chosen one, my friend.”
“And you too Brandlin. Good journey!”
Draylon bent his knees then leapt, soaring into the sky like a missile, destination Easter Island.
Draylon arrived at Paul's late on Tuesday March the 15th. He walked into Paul's flat to find Paul had already retired for the night. Draylon quietly got himself comfortable on the sofa and closed his eyes. He was very much looking forward to a peaceful night's sleep, and excited about seeing Adriana the next day.
Paul was woken by his alarm clock at eight a.m. He yawned and stretched then climbed out of bed. He made his way to the kitchen to make himself a cup of tea and shouted aloud. Draylon immediately awoke wondering what was happening.
“You scared the life out of me,” said Paul catching his breath.
Draylon laughed “I am sorry, I got back late and I didn't want to wake you.”
“What happened?”
Draylon told Paul everything.
“If the grey's really have gone back home to seek counsel, how long until they return do you think?”
“Well it takes approximately two years of travelling at immense speed to get to our home planet Terspheriton. If that is where they have gone then we have at least four years of peace.”
“That's great news! So what are your plans now?”
“I would like to see Adriana; I have missed her so much.”
Paul told Draylon that he had met with Adriana yesterday and that she obviously has very strong feelings towards him. He explained how upset she became when she found out that he had gone to find Draykon. Paul then told Draylon that she had bought him a gift. Draylon was overjoyed and asked what it was. Paul told Draylon to look in the fridge. Without a second to lose Draylon darted to the fridge and opened the door, it was loaded with his favourite drink Monster Ripper. He reached in and grabbed himself a cold can of the luscious beverage. He pulled the ring-pull, put the can to his lips and drank. Paul noted that he hadn't seen Draylon smile that much in a long time. Paul was happy for his friend and hoped that they could all enjoy some degree of normality for a while.
It was approaching five p.m. and Draylon told Paul he was going to meet Adriana from work. Paul wished his friend good luck and asked him to say hello for him. Draylon arrived at five on the dot and Adriana was just locking up. She was wearing a short denim skirt and a red top, her brown hair was long and beautiful. She turned to notice him and her striking brown eyes looked into his, burning with an intensity that made time stand still.
She ran to him and flung her arms around him, “Is it over?” she asked, holding him tightly. “Yes, at least for now I hope. I have missed you.” Draylon felt so happy, he didn't want that moment to end; everything was perfect. They were cheek to cheek, they both moved slowly until their lips met and they kissed softly breathing each other in deeply. Draylon was drawn in to the warm soft touch of her lips. Many minutes went by and they both pulled away and met each other's eyes. They were both perfectly happy.
“May I walk you home?” asked Draylon.
“I would like that very much,” said Adriana.
As they walked Draylon told Adriana everything that had happened and explained that they quite possibly had four uninterrupted years to look forward to. Adriana sighed; Draylon feared that their perfect moment was about to reach its end.
“I love you Draylon,” said Adriana with a tear in her eye.
“I love you Adriana, what is wrong?
“I want so much to be with you, but I don't think that we can be,” tears streamed Adriana's face.
Draylon gently stopped a tear as it rolled down her cheek with his finger. He looked into her eyes pleading, “We can be, please Adriana, everything will be fine, you'll see.” Draylon felt sad.
“I love you! But my heart has been broken. It's not your fault. You have so much to do, so many people to save. You won't have enough time for me and my heart will break again, I couldn't bare that.”
“Please Adriana, I won't hurt you again,” Draylon pleaded, his strength ebbing away at the thought of a life without Adriana.
“In four years they'll be back, you have a destiny. I am your weakness and you need to be strong. It was selfish of me to think that you could be mine. I love you so much, we can be friends and that is all. Bye⦔ Adriana looked into Draylon's eyes, her eyes welled with tears, and she turned and walked away.
Draylon felt crushed. He wondered how a perfect day could turn and be his worst moments later. He walked to the coast of Hanga Roa, found himself a rock to sit on and stared out to sea.
Adriana arrived home and went straight to her bedroom and sobbed. She wanted so much to be with Draylon and had never felt love before as she does now. She felt that she had to be strong for Draylon's sake. She couldn't be his weakness again. She was willing to sacrifice her heart and soul to keep him safe, even though it meant they could never be together.
Draylon made a slow journey back to Paul's flat. When he arrived Paul was waiting with a mug of tea in hand.
“How did it go?”
“Not good.” Draylon slumped down on the sofa.
“What happened?” Paul was confused, as he knows Adriana's feelings towards Draylon.
“Everything was perfect, then we started to walk towards Adriana's home and everything went wrong. I pleaded with her but she was adamant that we couldn't be together because she makes me weak and I need to be strong for whatever is coming. I understand where she's coming from, but it hurts.”
“Why can't you both just live for today? Nobody knows what tomorrow will bring, but there's no use worrying about it today.”
“She is right Paul, I need to worry about tomorrow and I need to be prepared for whatever is coming. The greys will return and anybody that I am close to, anybody that I care about could possibly be in danger, and that will make me weak.”
“But can you live your life detached from people you love. It seems a very lonely road to take.”
Draylon sat in thought for a while and then looked up. Paul had his hands to his head and was incoherent, his legs started to give way and Draylon caught him just as he was about to fall. Minutes later Paul became aware again and Draylon asked him what had just happened. Paul said that he had another vision and he explained that Draylon needed to be at the crash site in Roswell right away.
