Sabastian’s father’s planet was inhibited with people who frowned on interspecies mating.  So, they weren’t as thrilled as most others were.  But his father was extremely pleased, and he was a high ranking member of the Zilean Planetary Council.

Sam’s mother was thrilled beyond words that her son was mated to the famous Melissa, daughter of one of the Royal Princes, and daughter of the famous scientists, physicians and oddly galactic rock stars.

The Jontu and Zanlea exploits have traveled throughout the known worlds with growing fans as word traveled.  Too many planets now see Earth as a place to make a name for themselves, like the H’traeians did.

Sabastian moved his pack from their condo in
New York
to the Jontu Compound on the East coast.  The south wing was swiftly renovated to house five families, although only three were needed at present.  That gave the Vannese group room for expansion as the families grow.

Melissa was a happy lady, contented.  She was so in love and sated that her smile every morning at the breakfast table always brought taunts from her brother and his wife, her best friend, Elizabeth.

Her in-laws instantly fell in love with her and she with them.  They were a tight knitted group within a month.

Everyone, especially Melody had opened their hearts to Sabastian’s pack/family.  The new Sam Group, as many were calling them, were thrilled to be living on the beach and among so many rarely talented people.

Life was looking good again and all the excitement of the past few years was becoming a distant memory.

Melody orchestrated the goings on of the main house and strived to meet everyone’s needs to a flawless perfection.  How she managed it all was a wonder to her whole family.  She kept the housekeepers straight about who’s laundry needed cleaning,  where missing items might be found, who was using what rooms at any given time and planned many family activities to keep the families laughing, happy and working together as a loving unit.  Sabastian’s group blended in with very little changes for any of them.

CHAPTER 17  *  *

THOSE CRAZY BOYS

The three new teenage boys, Sam’s nephews, Jasper who was sixteen and Noel who was almost a year younger, and Tyler who was half way through fourteen, tended to trail behind Melody most days.  They really enjoyed listening to her talk, laugh and looking at them with more love in her eyes than they got from any other female besides their individual moms.

Melody was now pack to them too and they constantly tuned themselves into her emotions.  Which was both good and bad.

The first time one of them let out a low, but audible growl at Jonathan after he had scolded her about not taking her nap, Melody knew she needed to talk with Sabastian.

He’d talked with the boys and warned them to tone down the defensiveness of their apparent crush on Melody.  Her husband’s also adored her and no one, not them nor him would tolerate them being aggressive with her own mates.

They agreed, stating they simply wanted her happiness and were guarding her from any potential danger.  None of them wanted to lose her again.

They were now her unofficial guards and even given a small salary for their security work.  Though they were still young “cubs” they were far stronger than any of the other males in the household, except Sabastian.  That’s why both Jonathan’s tolerated their over attentiveness to their wife.  They also were well aware that the boys were infatuated with her.  Her large pregnant belly just deemed her more valuable and pack worthy.  It made her more feminine to the cubs and more in need of protection.  Zileans were always extra protective of their expectant females, Sam had explained in the boys defense, several times already.

Melody couldn’t understand why the boys tended to be her shadow, especially with her so large and clumsy with the twins nearly ready for birthing, so it wasn’t that they were feeling flirtatious because
that
they’d never been, thankfully, just overly protective.

Melody turned toward the elevator to go take the nap she knew she really did need and saw Noel hurry to push the button for her.  Jasper was reading a book on the other side of the room but she had noticed him glancing at her all too often today.  The youngest,
Tyler
, was sitting at a desk doing homework on his computer, also glancing at her more than usual.

“You boys want to help me plan next weeks menu when my nap is over?”  She was still trying to satisfy everyone’s food quirks.  “Then perhaps I can get a beach ball game going after supper tonight.  Melissa used to love exploring when we were living on the island.  Jonathan gave her the rock climbing wall for her birthday because she loved climbing so much.  She’s a great runner too.  Have either of you raced with her?”

Jasper tossed his book onto the seat, lumbered over to her and took her arm as she waddled to the elevator.  He smiled down at her, for the boys were each well over six foot, and well muscled.  “We ran on the beach with her last week.  She’s really good, though she’s no match for any in our pack.  We were running even before we were weaned.”

“Really?!  I didn’t know that.  I have so much to learn.  Sometimes I feel like a complete fool around all your brilliant minds and handsome bodies.”

The three boys grinned and preened at her praise.

Melody was escorted upstairs to her rooms and when they left her at her bedroom door they asked if she needed anything.

“If you get a chance will you ask Melissa to see me when she’s free.  It’s nothing but a mama wanting to see her baby girl.”  Melody explained to their bewildered and slightly worried eyes.

“It’s amazing how you still feel like her mother.  How you still feel motherly attachment to her even though she’s almost your age now, is a puzzle?” Jasper commented what they all wondered over.

“Oh yes!  I always will, even when she’s a hundred.  She’ll always be my baby, just like David is and always will be my baby boy.  The same will be true of my twin boys,” she stated as she rubbed her stomach.

They bid her to have a pleasant nap and closed the door as she walked toward her queen sized bed to lay down.

Melody awakened to find Melissa sitting in the rocker beside her bed.  Melissa was crocheting, a talent her mom had taught her daughter.  Opening her eyes wider she asked, “Sweetie, what are you making?”

Missy glanced at her mom and answered, “I’m trying to make booties for my little brothers.  I know they will outgrow them almost overnight, but it’s fun anyway.”

Looking at her mom Melissa asked, “How are my little brother’s doing today?  The scans show they are ready to see their family.”

Melody rubbed her stomach again and frowned.  “I’ve been having contractions for a few hours.  Guess it’s time to head to the birthing room.”

Although Melissa knew she might say that since her nephews had cornered her an hour earlier and voiced their opinion that her mom was in labor.  Zilean males seem extra tuned into those they love.  And it was a fact that her whole new family/pack adored her mom.  For that she was deeply grateful, since her mom had a history of getting herself into what she called “pickles”.

About that moment Melody gasped and grabbed her stomach.  “Missy, call your dads.  I’m gonna need help walking to the birthing room.”

Melissa hurried to the wall intercom and said, “Mom’s in labor and needs help to the birthing room.  And maybe you should both hurry.”

In less than thirty seconds both ladies heard the pounding of feet on the hardwood floors.  Oddly, it sounded like a stampede.

The door flung open and three young faces peered at her as the boys rushed to her side.  Soon both Jonathans and David and Mark came barreling through the door.

Melody laughed.  “Well, I guess I know the key to getting some male attention around here.”      Both Jonathan’s moved the boys aside as Jon J scooped her up in his arms and headed for the door.

Melody had another contraction and couldn’t contain the groan that ripped from her lips as she was carried down the hallway toward the elevator.

Shortly the scene in the family waiting room was comical.  They had to move partitions to make room for all the new comers.  Melody was behind a rolling screen but she could hear them and they could hear her.  For that reason she tried with all her might to be a quiet as a little mouse, or so she said to her husbands.

With her last loud grunt Jonathan wiped her face with a cool cloth and advised her, “Mel, darling, bellow like a rhino if that will ease your pain any.”

Melody refused to let the doctors medicate her.  She secretly feared that somehow they might take one of her babies if she wasn’t awake and fully aware like they had her mother-in-law.

When she couldn’t contain one loud groan of misery she heard multiple growling noises and even whimpering on the other side of the screen.

Looking at her husbands she asked, “What’s wrong?  What’s going on?  Is one of the boys hurt?”  She was trying to climb out of bed to go see, but her men made her stay in bed.  “I want to see!” she exclaimed.

The men had been warned that Zileans growled and whimpered when extremely worried or excessively upset.

Melody called out loudly and with force, “Move that wall so I can see what’s going on!”

Jonathan leaned over and whispered to her, “It’s those crazy boys.  They’re worried about you and hearing your painful moans is upsetting them.”

“Move the rolling wall so they can see I’m alright and I can comfort them,” she demanded.

The men rolled their eyes at one another but did as she asked.

The three boys quickly came to her bedside.      “Mel, can we do anything to make you more comfortable?” Jasper asked with his face in a grimace.  Seeing her sweaty face he added, “Would you like some of that cold pineapple-papaya juice you like so much?”

“Oh, that would be fantastic, sweetie,” she answered.

While the eldest, Jasper, ordered the drink through the intercom
Tyler
was fluffing up her pillow and Noel was getting a bowl of ice to wet a new cloth to wipe her face with, feeling the one in use was too warm.  They were wise enough to ask the Jonathans if they could get anything for them as well.

Melissa, Mary, Elizabeth and Sue came to her bedside and smiled.  “So, will we get this kind of Diva attention when we give birth again?” Mary asked.

“They make great doctors and comforters, don’t they,” Melody answered while grinning at her male fan club.

Susan admitted with a twitchy smile and a sparkle in her eye, “I want about six of them for myself.”

Mel waved at the reminder of the room filled with people in couches, loungers, rockers and loveseats.  Some were hovering over the coffee pot, some of the youngsters were having fun in the play area.

Jonathan J admitted, “I’ve never seen a laboring suite designed like this one.  I looked over several on the internet, but none were as nicely designed as this place.”

Mary grinned at him and stated, “Mel and I put it together right after David was born.  We’ve sold the design to a few hospitals, though most want to conserve space.”

Melody turned onto her side and began panting and groaning.  Jonathan quickly climbed onto the bed and began rubbing her back.  It helped her somewhat.

When the doctors returned they ushered everyone out and rolled the panel back in place for privacy so they could examine her.

“Jon!” Melody yelled out.  Both men came barreling around the panel to see what was wrong.

“It’s time!” Mel announced through puffing lips.

In short time the first boy entered the world.  He had black hair and blue eyes, like his father.  They named him Sky, in honor of where his father came from, and the color of his eyes.

Ten minutes later with more pain than she’d ever had before and with some loud grunting and just a tiny bit of hippo bellowing Storm came into the world.  Black haired, except for a thin lock at his forehead that was almost snow white.  His eyes were royal blue too.

Melody named him Storm because he came as a tempest through her labor to bring him into the world.

Rejoicing was abundant.  Everyone thought the twin boys were adorable and seemed identical except for Storm’s white lock of hair.

Melody knew that Storm was Jonathan’s son and the white lock was symbolic of the agony his dad had been through before he was conceived.

*   *   *

Melody had Storm in her arms nursing him while sitting on the rear patio in her favorite rocker while watching the ocean waves break onto the shore.  She moved the nursing shield a bit to see his tiny face enjoying the milk her body was providing.  Sky was contentedly full and laying in his cradle rocker beside her chair being adored by his dad Jonathan J.

She never told the men she knew who was son to whom, it was a physic thing between her and her sons.

It didn’t actually matter, thankfully the men were as thrilled over one son as the other.  The white lock of hair had them puzzled though.  She kept quiet about that too.
