One Week Later

Time flies when you’re having fun. Well, at least that’s the way I feel when I’m with Etty. The past week has come and gone so quickly, but I can’t forget every moment I spend with her. Between the shop, Linc’s therapy, and finding time with Etty, things are passing by in a blur.

I’ve stuck to my word and have woken up next to her every day since our first date. I won’t take a moment of what we have for granted.

Now that Jo’s back and out of the hospital, being over at Etty’s has its advantages for all of us. Things have been hard for both Linc and Jo, but knowing them like I do, they’ll fight through everything and come out stronger than ever.

Their relationship is such an inspiration to me; I want Etty and me to have what they have. Having her by my side has opened up so many possibilities I never thought were possible.

I’m happier now than I’ve ever been and I can already feel myself falling for this girl. She’s everything to me and I want to create a forever with her.

Looking at the nightstand, the clock reads that it’s already four forty-five. Etty said she’d be ready and over here by five. I better get my ass in gear and get dressed.

Something big is about to happen and I’m so glad to be a part of it. I look to Linc who’s sitting across from me, his arm wrapped around Jo. Etty squeezes onto my leg and I know it’s about time. Standing from the table, I look to Cliff, Steve, Ashley, Etty, Linc and Jo.

“I can’t express how happy I am that we’re all here together. A lot of shit has tried to take us down as a family, but hell, we just keep on fighting to get through it all. I want to propose a toast and let you know how grateful I am that you’ve been here for me. I may be an ass, but I’m the ass you love to hate.”

Etty smacks me on the leg and I look down at her with a wink.

“To the Cursed Crew,” I say, raising my glass.

“To the Cursed Crew,” everyone says in unison.

I take my seat and watch as Linc moves to stand.

“Dault, you are the corniest badass out there, but you know I love you and will always have your back. We wanted to get everyone together as a group, because…well shit, it’s been forever, but there’s something bigger I wanted you all to be a part of.”

My eyes steady on Linc as I watch his every move. Pushing his chair back, he kneels down next to Jo.

She lets out a gasp as he pulls a box out of his pocket and opens it in front of her.

“Jo, I thought I lost you once and then it almost happened to me again. I won’t ever let you out of my sight. You’re my one and only. The person I want to spend forever and a day with. No one makes me feel the way you do and I’d be forever grateful if you’d become my wife.”

Cheers surround the restaurant and then complete silence takes over while we wait for Jo’s response. Etty’s hand finds mine under the table, both of us filled with anticipation.

“Holy shit, Linc, yes….yes, of course I will marry you.”

He slides the ring onto her hand and they both move to their feet, embracing one another with a kiss.

“Okay, okay, this is a family place. Save the show for later,” I yell to them.

Moving from my seat, I walk to the other side of the table, congratulating them both. I love these two; they’re my family and I couldn’t be happier.

With a wide smile, Jo calls for everyone’s attention through the chaos.

“Hey guys, why don’t we all go back to the house and celebrate?”

Etty moves to her side and takes another look at the ring on Jo’s finger.

“You’re up next, Dault.”

“Yeah okay, not yet…one day.”

My girl looks at me with a smile and then turns to hug Jo.

It’ll happen, just not anytime soon. Etty and I just started to plant our feet in our relationship. I know she’s the one for me, but I want her to trust me one hundred percent before we move onto the next step.

Together, we walk out of the restaurant and into the parking lot.

“Hey, babe, I’m gonna ride with the guys so we can stop and pick up some stuff to celebrate. I’ll see you at the house.”

Hopping into Steve’s car, I wave as Linc, Jo, and Etty pull out and head home.

Watching out the window, I think about everything wonderful that has happened in the past two weeks. We’re all back together. Jo is healing, Linc’s kicking ass with his therapy, and the shop is thriving with the help of Steve, Cliff, and Ashley.

I glance to the front of the car as the light turns green. Steve hits the gas and we begin to crawl through the intersection.

“Watch out!” Cliff yells from the back seat.
