Chapter Thirty-Six

Triton and Umbriel walked coolly out, following the residual energy that Nala left in her feeble attempt to flee the mansion. The trail lead out of the house to the garage and out into the night. Climbing into the new Bugati, a present from Nala to Umbriel for his loyalty, Triton drove as Umbriel sat feeling a sense of disappointment to his brother and fierce anger towards the woman that he thought he loved. Honing in on her scent, Triton swung the sleek car quickly around, hugging the curves of the winding road that led to the edge of their territory. Umbriel internal radar sensed the most overpowering signal; Nala was so close he could almost taste the bittersweet blood that pulsed through her icy veins.

“I can taste her.” He growled to Triton who was stopping the car in front of the old prison where James had met his fate.

Nala raced to the basement of the old reformatory where she had hidden away Annasara and Brenden. Sensing his mother’s fear rising, Brenden stirred and started to whine. Annasara covered his mouth in a feeble attempt to quiet the child. Banging on the cell door loudly, Nala startled the mother and child so much they both let out a frightened cry.

“Your precious husband is on his way. Don’t expect him to rescue you and that thing.” She pointed to the baby. “He’ll be dead before he knows it.” Nala snarled. Pulling out from her trench coat, she released the silver sword and waved it in front of the cell bars. The glint off the blade temporarily blinded Annasara, putting her hand up she shielded her eyes.

“Let us go, and I tell Triton to spare you.”

“You think he would actually do that?” Nala scoffed.

“He would if I asked him; he is a good man…” Nala’s tirade ended abruptly as Annasara tried to reason with her. “Good! Good? He’s a killer; he slaughters your kind for sport.”

“No! You’re wrong! He doesn’t want anything to do with your organized crime mafia.” Annasara cried out. Nala looked upon her with indignant pity. “You have no idea…do you? Has he ever ate or drank in front of you? Stepped in to the sun?”

“Of course he has, why are you asking me this?” Annasara’s confusion amused Nala. “Because he is my creation! He is mine! I made him for me, to love me not some fucking human!” Nala ranted wildly. The anger rising so quickly flushing her pale white skin to rosy pink to red.

“Foolish human, are you that naïve? He’s a vam…” her words halted in her throat as Triton burst into the room. Nala flew into the cell, grabbed from behind Annasara who was still holding the child. Hissing at Triton, Nala invoked the change instantaneously and held the sword to his loved ones.

Triton’s heart leap at the sight of his beloved and their son. Their eyes locked tightly, her pleading for saving and answers, his begging forgiveness and understanding.

“Releasing my family, now!” he ordered with unwavering command.

Annasara
cried out, “Triton, don’t let her hurt Brenden.”

“She will not harm a hair on his head. Will you Nala?”

“Take one step further, I will spill her blood and let it drain at you
r feet.” Nala said with the same unwavering tone Triton used towards her. Nala ripped the shirt open on Annasara’s blouse to reveal the red diamond necklace. Nala gasped in horror.

“Where did you get this?” she screamed at Annasara. Annasara looked confusedly at her husband. “From Triton.”

“Why did you give her the necklace?!” Nala screamed at Triton who just cocked his head. “I found your diary.”

Nala face registered such shock.

“I know Januar gave this to you when you gave birth to his child, his human child. Now, I will not tell you again. Released my wife and child.”

Nala’s face began to crack and quiver, “How could you? I made you, gave you the power to avenge your bride. I gave you the world, immortality, never ending power and this is how you treat me? Marrying a human?”

“Repay you? I have done more than that. Or have you forgotten the sacrifices I have laid upon your feet?”

“Look what I have laid at your feet, you think that you just happened stumble upon her in that alley and save her, you think she conveniently looks like you dead wife? Speaking of your dead wife, she begged for her life as I drained her dry, her blood was so young and sweet, oh and with child.”

Triton
shook from anger, accusingly he spoke, “You did all this so you could have a child, my child?”

“Januar killed my baby, he became the most powerful of all of us because he sacrificed
my baby
!”

“What is she talking about?” Annasara asked but stood silenced as the blade drew cold on her skin. Triton stood trembling from his anger burned him so much; he barely could stop the change from happening until Brenden cried out in squirmed in his mother’s arms. He thought back to the night he and Nala shared in the club he drank from her, the DNA must have entered his system and he passed the gene to Annasara when he impregnated her.

“Your son, calls for you. If you could save one or the other, which would it be? Is he a half breed? Or full blown vampire?”

Annasara
looked at her son and then to Triton. Her mind turned, the pieces falling quickly into place.

“He is the same as your son was!” Triton shouted.

“My son is dead!” Nala shouted back.

“What are you? Who are you?” Annasara shouted. “You’re a vampire!”

“I wanted to tell you what.” Triton said.

What have you done to me?  Our son!”

Is that why you fear not the sun, you drank from the child?” Nala said licking her lips.

How could you!” Annasara screamed and tried to launch forward but the swords edge held tightly to her throat stopped her.

“I never once tasted him.”
Triton said of his son.

It was me? You got that from me?” Annasara shouted at him. “Our anniversary, you said I was drunk, it was you, you bit me and drank from me?”

Nala laughed as
the blood filled her senses, her mouth grew moist and wet.

“Don’t even think of it!” Triton demanded. Triton only had seconds before Nala would attempt to feed off his wife, if she did she could gain enough strength to conquer him. He could not take that chance. Then all hell broke loose. Triton plunged at her, snatching his son in a moment that happens so quickly Nala blinked and it was over. Annasara cried out to her husband seeing her son safe in his arms, “Triton, take Brenden and go you can live for ever I can’t.”

Triton
’s full powers emulated regally as he turned into full vampire status and he shouted to Nala, “Release her!”

“Fine
, I will give both of you your wishes.” Taking her hand from right to left, the blade swiped across Annasara throat. Blood rushed and gurgled and out, Annasara fell to the floor instantly as Nala dropped the sword. The clank of the metal echoed loud as thunder in the room. Triton stared in disbelief.

Sara!” he shouted and sat down his son, Nala lean downed attempting to scoop the blood up, Triton kicked her in the chest sending Nala back against the wall stopping her from tasting the altering blood.

Rushing to his wife’s aid
Triton tried to cover the wound to stop the bleeding, but the blood rushed too quickly through his fingertips from out of her throat. Annasara looked at Triton her last thoughts he read,
I love you and our son
. Triton gasped in terror. He had to do something she was fading in his arms before his very eyes. Tears streamed down Annasara’s face, mixing with the blood that drained from her neck, Triton attempted to wipe them away. She begging for him to go on, to raise their son and be happy.

“I can
not live without you.” He said before clamping down across to her neck drinking our life as a poured from the veins. Her body shuttered as the teeth ripped to into her flesh. Mouth covered in her blood he brought his wrist up to his mouth, quickly broke his own skin, and poured his spilling blood into her mouth. Resting his wrist upon her lips, the blood oozed out of his veins over her tongue coating it before seeping down her throat. The new life seeped slowly into her. Taking both hands, Annasara took hold of his wrist, feeding from him with the intensity of a newborn suckling its mother’s breast.

What are you doing!” Nala screamed at him as Annasara as body jerked in twitched as for mortal soul left in the dark curse took over. Triton looked up to Nala, a smirk and covering his face just as Umbriel charged into the room.

“Brother what have you done?” Umbriel asked shocked at the sight.

“He turned her. Kill him, Umbriel you promised!” Nala wildly yelled. Umbriel looked at her is if she was crazy. “Promised?” Nala scrambled to get the words out. “You said if I got them away from him you could kill him and we would raise the child, together.”

“Liar!” Umbriel shouted angrily.

“Believe me, Triton, he betrays you.” Nala said.

“You would betray me? Brother is this true?”

“I did tell her that only to trap her. Brother please I was only trying to help.” Umbriel pleaded with Triton who was become very agitated.

“Help me or help yourself?”
Triton asked him. Umbriel looked to Nala who looked to Triton who looked at Umbriel. All three in turn looked behind them as Annasara stood her eyes glowing with the gift of now being a full vampire.

“How dare you touch my
child?” Annasara said a fierce anger in her tone as she lunged towards Nala. Knocking Nala back against the wall, Annasara seized her by the throat. The newly formed vampire was strong as the centuries old Nala and the two sounded like two cats tangling, slashing, and clawing at each other wildly. Triton watched in amazement at the two females fight. Unwilling letting down his guard, Triton mistakenly allowed Umbriel to snatch the child into his arms. Brenden cried out his baby wail for his parents. Hitting Triton’s ears instantly, he spun around to face his best friend holding his crying son.

“Take one step closer and I will wring the life from him.” Umbriel threatened
Triton nervously. Nala and Annasara stop fighting as the two vampires began shouting both women wanting the child to be safe.

“After all we have been through, you dare do this to me?” Triton’s tone was angered, hurt, and wounded. Umbriel’s voice held the same tone “I loved you like a brother, but you do not believe me.”

“I never said such words, now give me my son!” Triton yelled.

“All  I have heard for the at last three centuries-
Triton this, if you could only be more like Triton, strong like Triton, could screw like Triton-sorry my brother but I could never live up to you. I’ve been in your shadow centuries too long.” Umbriel spewed as he bordered on the verge of hysteria. Brenden sensing the tension and anger began to cry out. Holding out the child, tears streamed out of Umbriel’s blood shot eyes as Triton took his son from him.

“You did the right thing.
Umbriel Januar.” Triton said as Annasara approached and took Brenden from him. Nala shouted, “What? What did you just call him?”

Triton
looked heavily upon both of them, “Your son never died, Nala. He grew up and became a man, until Januar thought he needed to be a full vampire. He gave him immortality. Sorry my brother but this is your mother.”

Reaching out towards Umbriel, Triton extending his hand as Umbriel jerked back. Everyone watched as Umbriel shook his head
from side to side slowly. Nala bent over in vial disgust, she dry vomited at the news. Pulling from his waistband a large black gun, Umbriel held it up and pointed it at Nala. Triton’s eyes grew wide, as Annasara covered Brenden view, Nala gasped and Umbriel fired one shot. Crash! Glass rained down from the sliding glass door in tiny smoky droplets, as sunlight flooded into the room casting a yellow glow within.

“NO!”
Triton yelled and reached out for Umbriel but it was too late. Walking out into the daylight, Umbriel disappeared into the day to the surprise of remaining vampires. Nala face show only defeat.

“I’m sorry Triton; I should have never fallen for the forbidden.
More than this immortal life, I loved you.” She said sorrowfully and in the steps of Umbriel, walked out to meet the day. Sunrays did not sear the flesh. Nala gasped as Januar and Umbriel stood side by side before her. Umbriel smirked as Januar spoke. “You could have seen the sun all these centuries. You have had the gift since I created you. Pity you obeyed the rules.”
