He leaned to kiss her with infinite gentleness for a long, long moment, then pulled back and said, “I am truly
your
warrior.”

She smiled tiredly.  “I think I shall love being simply a wife.  We’ll both still be under that same, beautiful warrior’s moon, together.”

Smoothing a finger across her cheekbone ever so gently, he looked into her eyes and whispered, “Yes.  Under the moon together.  Forever.”

Jaclyn M. Hawkes grew up in Utah with 6 sisters, 4 brothers and any number of pets.  (It was never boring!)  She got a bachelor’s degree, had a career and traveled extensively before settling down to her life’s work of being the mother of four magnificent and sometimes challenging children.  She loves shellfish, the out of doors, the youth and hearing her children laugh.  She and her fine husband, their family, and their sometimes very large pets, now live in a mountain valley in northern Utah, where it smells like heaven and kids still move sprinkler pipe.

       Author’s Note

I am a patriot to the bone.  I love my country and hope I would be like Chantaya and Peyton in putting the strength of my country over my own personal desires. 

Sadly, it has taken time to make me understand the importance of
patriotism.  If I had known as a younger, single woman what I know now, I would probably have ended up in the military.  As it is, I am now content to write occasionally and be the mother who tries to instill a sense of patriotism and gratitude for the blessings of this great nation into my children and those around me. 

I also try to teach gratitude for those who defend our freedoms and blessings.  I’ve come to more fully realize the sacrifices our men and women in uniform
make to protect us.  I’m sure I don’t have a clue to the real extent of their service, but I am infinitely grateful.  God bless them.  God bless us all,
