Nathan looked around the group. “Are there any questions? Does everyone understand their assignments?” The group nodded to each other and then to Nathan. “Ok we’re going to go at 8pm tomorrow night; we’re going to spend the rest of the evening and tomorrow going over the plan to get it perfect.” Nathan looked at Jason. “Right after Jason’s haircut.” The group smiled and chuckled… particularly Darion.

Deshad walked into the operations center at Mt. Weather. Director Thompson was standing behind the workstation of an agent who was placing several satellite images on a large viewscreen that took up almost the entire front wall of the room. The agent at the workstation saw Deshad enter and motioned with his eyes to the director who turned around and made for the assassin. He bowed his head slightly. “An honor to have you among us shadow, how may I assist you?” Few outside of the counsel knew of Deshad but most had heard enough to try and avoid him as much as possible. Deshad moved pass Thompson and towards the large screen, Thompson followed. Deshad spoke plainly as if he were talking to a servant. “Bring up the files on your rogue unit.” Thompson looked to his agent who then brought up the files on the screen. Seven dossiers with minimal intelligence, name, unit recruited from and a highlight of medals and awards.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Frank Morgan, Navy Seals, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.

First Lieutenant Elizabeth Waters, Marine Force Recon, Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit.

Corporal Carlos Velasquez, Marine Force Recon, Distinguished Service Medal.

Sergeant First Class Shane Rogers, Army Green Berets, Army Commendation Medal, American Defense Service Ribbon, Silver Lifesaving Medal, Purple Heart
Lieutenant Commander Derek Price, Navy Seals, Navy Cross, Silver Star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.

Captain Joseph Sims, Navy Seals, Navy Cross, Silver Star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

Colonel Samuel Jenkins, Army Delta Force, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star, Silver Star, Distinguished Service Medal with Two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, American Defense Service Ribbon, Purple Heart.

As Deshad looked over the unit he felt a small fleeting moment of anxiety, early in his career Deshad had ran into a US Army Special Forces unit, during that encounter he was caught unaware by the team’s leader and nearly paid for it with his life. Deshad’s skill and experience had grown exponentially since then and he truly felt the altercation would have ended differently had he been more aware none the less he now enhanced his focus on the only man who almost beat him. “Tell me about Colonel Jenkins.”

Director Thompson nodded to his agent who pulled up and opened the dossier on Colonel Jenkins. Thompson read over the highlights. “Black male 6’2” 178 pounds, born in Memphis Tennessee joined the Army at 18 and became a Ranger at 19. He d..” Deshad turned around and cut Thompson off. “I can read Director, I didn’t ask for his life story, tell me ABOUT him. What type of man is he, is he a strategist, a warrior, is he a drunk, how does he command?” Director Thompson was more used to dealing in data than profiling people; he did not however want to draw the shadow’s ire so he made his best attempt. “He is a natural leader, his people would follow him into hell if need be. He takes his oath to defend the constitution and the nation very seriously that is why he is not General Jenkins. He is highly trained and very dangerous. That is the extent of what I know.” Deshad turned to look at the Colonel’s picture on the screen. “Then you do not know much Director.” Thompson didn’t know what to say, he just wanted Deshad gone. Deshad turned to the agent at the desk. “Show me their last known location.” This time the agent did not look to Thompson for approval. He brought up satellite imagery of the units last known coordinates. The agent tried to sound as confident as possible while speaking to Deshad, still fear came thru his voice. “Their trackers went off line eight miles northwest of the Harrisburg Pennsylvania compound.” Deshad moved closer to the screen to get a look at the surrounding landscape. “Zoom out.” The agent complied. Deshad looked over the area trying to figure out where he might go if he were them. “More.” The agent zoomed out further. After a moment of Deshad studying the surrounding area Thompson offered his insight. “We believe their hiding out in one of the abandoned towns nearby, Ducannon or Carlisle maybe.” Deshad pointed to a point on the map. “Zoom in here.” The agent followed instructions. Thompson spoke his thoughts when he probably shouldn’t have. “Sproul state forest, I doubt they would be in the forest, the temperature has been in the teens in and across that region lately with heavy snowfall. It makes more sense that they would hide out in a building or house.”

Deshad turned and looked at Thompson. “I don’t recall asking your opinion.” Deshad then moved towards Director Thompson who instinctively took a step back. “And your Garrett’s second in command?” Deshad moved past Thompson towards the exit, on the way out he said. “I think the man at the desk would have been a better choice.” With that Deshad left to prepare for his departure. His quarry had over a day’s head start. Deshad new that if he didn’t move quickly he might lose Jenkins and his team.

Jason sat in the driver seat of the JLTV moving north on a dark I 55 towards the Jackson compound, he had one hand on the steering wheel and the other rubbing on his newly clipped head.

Alexia in the backseat wearing her loose fit uniform tried to comfort him. “I like it; it makes you look more manly and less ….. Guido.” Jason put on a thick Italian accent in defense. “Hey thers nothin wrong wit being a Guido… show some respect.” Alexia laughed Nathan in the passenger seat just looked at them. Jason asked Alexia. “Really though you like it?”

Nathan cut the conversation short. “Ok time to get ready.” Nathan turned in his seat to face the young duo. “Lex you know why I brought Jason, do you know why I brought you?” Both Jason and Alexia had pondered that very thought. Alexia shook her head. “No, but I was curious.” Nathan looked at her and Jason. “The chances are very high that we are going to have to fight and I need you at my side.”

Jason’s training was coming along but he didn’t think he was even close to good enough to take on trained soldiers. “I thought you said there would be no fighting.” Nathan shook his head. “I said it would be a last resort, but I highly doubt their going to let us just walk into their control room and access their system.”

Alexia had thought that’s why her brother brought her along but hearing it made her clear her mind of all but the task at hand. She entered a quiet state of focus as they entered the outskirts of the city. Nathan turned to Jason. “You’ll do fine, stay calm and let me do the talking. Try to stay in the middle of us at all times; we’ll take care of security.” Nathan looked forward as the south gate was coming into view. “Lex grab the tablet behind my seat, you look a bit young for a soldier. I want you to keep your head down working on that tablet as much as possible.” Nathan didn’t hear a response from his sister but he felt her take the tablet from behind him. Nathan heard a calm voice in his earpiece as they moved closer to the guard shack. “Alpha this is Echo, I have a visual Bravo is standing by.” Anthony was looking thru his sniper rifle as he lay in a prone position on a small wooded hill, Gabriel next to him looking thru binoculars.

Jason slowed down and stopped in front of the gate as a couple of soldiers came over. The one on the driver side a Corporal instinctively looked at the rank on Jason and Nathans collar not paying too much attention to the young soldier working in the backseat. He then addressed Nathan. “Good evening Staff Sergeant where you headed.” Nathan had to shave his goatee and mustache to appear more the part. “Package for Agent Mason from Colonel Kline in New Orleans.” The Corporal nodded to Nathan. “It’s gotta be hell down there dealing with all those Texas refugees.” Nathan immediately responded. “You have no idea, why do you think I volunteered for this shit.” The Corporal nodded and gave a sign to the gate guard to open the gate. “Roger that Sarge, The Director’s trailer is to your right next to the tall building over there, you guys should relax at the Oasis before you leave. It’s down the end of that street there on the left.” Nathan was pretending to take interest in the Corporal’s directions. “Will definitely do that thanks.”

Jason slowly pulled off sweat purfusing from under his hat. As they pulled down the road to the operations center Nathan gave instructions. “Park in front of the building, Lex and I will get out you retrieve the case from the back we are going directly into the operations center, Lex follow my lead.” Again Nathan didn’t hear a response from Alexia but he didn’t need one he knew the mindset she was in. As they pulled up all three exited the JLTV. Nathan and Alexia waited for Jason to retrieve the long thin silver case from the back. The three moved up the steps towards the doors. Two soldiers stood atop the steps one on either side, they moved to block Nathan. “Sorry Staff Sergeant this areas off limits.” Nathan calmly responded. “I have a package for Agent Mason.” Nathan moved as if to pass but the soldier moved in front of him. “The director’s office is over there, he’s currently in operations but you’re welcome to wait.”

Nathan saw he wasn’t going to be able to talk his way past these soldiers. He motioned for Alexia to come forward as he addressed the soldier. “You listen Sergeant; I have orders from General Swartzer to deliver this package...” Nathan turned to Alexia. “La Fleur show him the orders.” Alexia moved to the first soldier while Nathan moved slowly towards the second. The soldier was about to say that regardless of what orders no one could pass but he didn’t get the chance.

Nathan turned and made three quick hits to the first soldier the last of which was an elbow to the chin that knocked him out cold. The second soldier instinctively turned and reached for his sidearm but was kicked in the face before he could reach it, Alexia then spun around as he was stunned and landed a heel kick to the second soldier’s chin effectively knocking him out as well. Alexia dropped the tablet and began moving to the door Nathan and Jason in tow.

At that very moment Agent Mason was walking out the building with his two goons in tow. Alexia being the first in line didn’t give any of them a chance to process the situation; she kicked Agent Mason with a side kick to the stomach which made him instinctively lean forward. Alexia then rolled over Agent Mason landing a back kick to the chest of one of the guards while simultaneously pushing Mason towards her brother. Nathan simply placed his foot out tripping Mason and throwing him to the ground in front of Jason. The second guard being a large man ferociously swung at Alexia as she was recovering from her kick. She blocked the punch and returned four of her own followed by a hard elbow to the low center of his chest instinctively aiming for the xiphoid process. As the first guard was recovering Nathan had calmly walked in to his attack zone. The guard swung on Nathan who moved his left hand to the side of his head to block the blow. Nathan then brought his right elbow upward in a reverse strike under the man’s chin and immediately followed it with two hammer fists to the man’s face breaking his nose and dropping him to the floor. Alexia’s combatant had grabbed his chest, stepped back and then came forward with a strong side kick aimed at her side, as the kick was moving in she formed a fist that stuck out her first two knuckles. Alexia placed her left hand up to absorb the kick while dropping to her right knee and striking the guard directly on his femoral artery with her knuckled fist. She immediately followed that up with a strike to the groin and a side elbow to the man’s face with a loud grunt. The 6’4” guard dropped to the floor passed out from the pain.

Nathan grabbed Agent Mason as Alexia opened the door Jason stood there with his face stunned. “Who the hell are you people?”

Gabriel was lying on the ground in a prone position next to Anthony looking at Nathan, Alexia and Jason as they made their way to the operations center; he turned to look at Anthony who was following the events thru the scope of his silenced sniper rifle. “I feel better now.” Gabriel said referring to his earlier embarrassment when he challenged Alexia. Anthony just calmly responded. “Yup.” Both Gabriel and Anthony heard the usual static in their ear piece that let them know someone was about to talk. “Echo this is Bravo we have a rover headed our way.” Both men switched their focus to Darion and his group. They were hiding in a small dead end alley just outside their breech point as a soldier in a mechanized suit was moving their way. Anthony responded to Darion. “On it.” Anthony sighted in on one of the auto drones about a hundred yards away from the rover and took it down. Almost immediately the soldier received orders to go check out the downed drone and altered his course. Darion came thru the earpiece again. “He’s moving away, thanks Echo.” Anthony responded. “No problem. Alpha is in the hen house stand by for breech.” Anthony then spoke to Gabriel. “Keep an eye on Bravo I’ve got Alpha.

Nathan held Agent Mason by the throat as they moved into the operations center. As soon as they entered the large entry hall they could see a soldier notice them from behind a desk. The soldier drew his side arm and pointed it at the group. “DON’T MOVE!” Nathan held Mason in front of him as a shield and drew his own pistol and placed it to Mason’s head as he calmly addressed the soldier. “Drop it or I kill him.” The soldier saw the eyes of Agent Mason who gave a slight nod. The soldier dropped his weapon. “Now interlock your fingers behind your head and place your chest and face against the wall behind you.” The soldier reluctantly followed Nathans commands. Nathan addressed Alexia and Jason. “Lock the doors, move that desk over there too.” Nathan tuned Mason around and pinned him against a pylon. “Where is your server?” Agent Mason was confused. “We don’t have any pertinent information stored on our servers.” Nathan wasn’t sure how much the camp directors knew about what was really going on; he looked at Mason in the eyes to gauge his reaction to his next words. “We are not here to obtain information but to… illuminate these people.” Nathan was always very good at reading people a necessary skill for his previous line of work. He saw the flash of anger he was looking for that let him know who he was dealing with. Nathan gave an evil smile. “Oh I see you already think you’re illuminated don’t you?” With that Nathan hit Mason in the head with his pistol which opened a large head wound gushing blood. Nathan threw him to the floor. “Take us to the server room now Illuminati. Agent Mason held his head and clenched his teeth as his spoke with utter hate. “You have no idea who you’re messing with; I AM GOING TO RIP YOUR FUC…” With that Nathan kneed the sitting camp director in the face knocking him back and unconscious.
