He
was only gone a few minutes before he was running back to the car with Dexter
at his side, an overnight Disney bag slung across his shoulder as he lifted him
into the back seat and told him to “Belt up.”

“Hey,
Mummy,” he quipped as I turned to smile at him.

“Hey,
Dex, have you had a good day, Buddy?” I asked on autopilot as he nodded
excitedly and I jumped at the tap on the side of the window, turning to see
Chas frowning at me.

“Why
didn’t you come up?” she asked as Lucas pressed a button to open the window.

“I’m
just a bit tired,” I said which she seemed to find odd, fixing a steely glare
on Lucas before waving enthusiastically at Dex.

“Have
a good night, squirt,” she said, blowing him a kiss as Lucas pulled out into
the traffic.

Dexter
chattered all the way to his apartment as Lucas listed the numerous films he
had to choose from and I closed my eyes, listening to them.

“Mummy won’t let me watch that,” I heard every
now and again, thinking as long as it was appropriate I couldn’t care less what
we watched, I’d most likely be asleep at this rate. By the time we arrived
they’d compromised on some film about talking dogs. According to Lucas it was a
classic, and from the way that Dexter was watching him in absolute awe I
imagined he’d have gone along with anything he said.

“Wow,”
Dexter said over and over as we entered the apartment and I couldn’t help but
smile. I’d never been anywhere like it and Dexter certainly hadn’t. An older
lady who I assumed to be his housekeeper was waiting in the kitchen, smiling
broadly at all three of us.

“Jess,
Dexter, this is Mrs Kilbride my housekeeper,” Lucas smiled as I looked into her
kind eyes, smiling broadly. She was in her late fifties, with dark hair that
was greying at the sides and roots, homely looking with soft, grey eyes and I
warmed to her immediately.

“What
would you like to drink, Dexter?” she asked as he stared up at her wide eyed.
“Come and choose,” she smiled, pulling open a huge refrigerator reserved just
for soft drinks as he stared between me and Lucas, gasping and smiling in sheer
astonishment at the bottles lined up on the shelves. I hoped he didn’t expect
this at home, we only ever had squash.

“Can
I have a lemonade, Mummy?” he asked as I nodded, leaning against Lucas who put
his arm around my shoulders, smiling as Mrs Kilbride poured his drink into a
tall glass.

“What
are you doing for food, Lucas?” she asked as he looked at me, pulling me
closely against him.

“I’ll
send out for pizza, you can get off home now,” he said as she ruffled Dexter’s
hair and I got the feeling she liked having him here.

“What’s
your favourite pizza, Dexter?” she asked , taking off her pinny and folding it
neatly before popping it in one of the incredible pull out cupboards.

“Hawaiian,”
he smiled as she laughed softly, muttering something about hot fruit being a
strange choice for a child. I couldn’t argue; it was.

“I’ll order and wait for it to be delivered
before I go. You take Dexter to set the film up,” she smiled as Lucas pulled
out a chair for me and I sat, smiling up at him as he leaned to kiss my lips. I
looked down to see Dexter staring at us.

I couldn’t decide if he was ecstatic,
embarrassed or somewhere in between as Lucas took him off to sort out the film,
running back minutes later, red faced and totally out of breath. “A cinema,” he
was panting, my bemused frown betraying I had no idea what he was talking about
as I heard Lucas’s low chuckle behind me.

“I
think he’s trying to tell you I have a cinema room.” I looked up at him
laughing and shaking my head. Why the hell did that not surprise me?

“What
pizza do
you like, Jess?” Mrs Kilbride asked as I
thought about it for a second. It was clear I wasn’t firing on all cylinders
right now, and I hoped the kind housekeeper wouldn’t get the wrong impression,
trying to sit up straighter in my seat.

“Spicy
chicken if they have it,” I smiled as she nodded.

“And
I know what you’ll want, my boy,” she grinned at Lucas as he laughed.
My boy?
I couldn’t imagine anyone else calling Lucas Hunter
‘my boy’ and I failed to suppress my giggle.

“Meat
feast, heavy on the chilli, hold the mushrooms” they said together as I looked
between them, glancing down at Dexter who seemed absolutely mesmerised. I
wondered for a second if he’d done this on purpose to persuade me to re-think.
I was certainly enjoying his particular brand of ‘normal’ and so was my son –
although there was nothing
normal
about Lucas Hunter.

I’d
never meet anyone with a housekeeper and a cinema.

It
was a small room with a huge screen, about twenty large, comfortable cinema
seats as the film flickered to life and Lucas sat in the middle of us both at
Dexter’s insistence, putting the box of pizza on my knee and handing me a
slice. I smiled broadly, taking a few bites before returning it to the box and
resting my head against his shoulder. I didn’t even see the end of the title
sequence.

I
felt slightly more coherent when I came around, covered in a soft, blue blanket
and completely alone, wondering how long I’d been asleep, turning as the door
opened and Lucas walked in, smiling.

“Hey, sleepyhead.
I’ve just
put Dexter to bed. He fell asleep too,” he smiled as I looked up at him wide
eyed.

“What time is it?” I asked, surprised.

“Eleven o-clock.
He made
me watch the first three and I didn’t want to leave you or wake you,” he
smiled, sitting down next to me and pulling my head against his chest.

“I’m
sorry, Lucas, I don’t know what happened,” I said as he chuckled gently.

“It’s
me who should be sorry. It looks like you hit subspace today. There was no way
I could leave you alone.” My puzzled frown betrayed the fact that I had
absolutely no clue what he was talking about.

“It’s
quite common after an intense scene, but you hit it early. It can
happen
when you give your body and your trust completely, a
mental state as well as a physical one. It makes you feel a bit high.” he explained
as I nodded.

“It did,” I smiled as he kissed the top of my
head.

“It
also means that you shouldn’t be left alone and you need rest afterwards to let
the hormones settle. It’s why I brought you here. You’re not necessarily as in
control of things as you should be. I’ll be more careful next time, you
surprised me,” he smiled as I stood up, stretching and wanting to go to bed. We
were obviously staying here, and the thought of spending all night in Lucas’s
bed was utterly intoxicating.

“You
still tired?” he asked, chuckling gently as I nodded and he scooped me into his
arms and carried me through to the bedroom, laying me on his bed as he started
to undress.

“Do
you have a spare toothbrush?”

“I
got a few things in, just in case,” he grinned as I stared at him wide eyed. He
hadn’t done this tonight. He wouldn’t have had the chance, and a flood of
warmth washed through me. He’d told me it would happen, and he was in no doubt
and already prepared. Yet again, Lucas was one step ahead of me.

I stood, making my way through to his beautiful,
tasteful marble bathroom as he passed me a toiletry bag that was infinitely
better stocked than my own.

“Wow,
I could get use to this,” I smiled as he kissed my cheek, brushing his teeth as
I rifled excitedly through the contents.

“That’s
the plan,” he winked through the mirror and I knew for certain he’d done this
on purpose as a broad grin broke across my face. Whatever I might be telling
myself; there was no doubt that thought delighted me.

I
wasn’t wasting time, washing up quickly and climbing into bed beside him as I
started to giggle.

“This
is really weird, it’s far too normal,” I smiled as he bent to kiss me, holding
my gaze, relaxed and open and I wondered if it might be a good time to get to
know a little more about my wonderful Dom. I still knew surprisingly little.

“Since
you’ve obviously done this on purpose tonight to barge your way into my life
because I said no, I think you should tell me a little more about yourself,” I
said, aiming for haughty while trying not to laugh as I snuggled up against
him.

“For
a sub, you’re too demanding and your attitude is all wrong,” he said with an
unmistakeable humour in his voice as I elbowed him playfully in the ribs. “See
what I mean,” he laughed as I looked up at him, determined to get the
information I wanted.

“Yeah,
I bet Roberta wasn’t pissy. I’m sure she must have been all ‘Yes, Sir, no, Sir”
I said, failing to conceal my irritation when he laughed.

“Roberta
wasn’t my sub” he said as I sighed. I wasn’t sure why but that made me feel
even worse.

“Of
course she wasn’t, she was your fiancée.” I said as Lucas sighed deeply,
pulling my chin towards him and holding my gaze.

“She
wasn’t my sub because I wasn’t a Dom then, at least not in the same way I am
now, if you must know,” he said as I stared at him wide eyed.

“You
were born a Dom, Lucas,” I replied quickly, the words rolling out before I
could stop them.

“Maybe,
but I hadn’t been into the lifestyle then. I didn’t have anything this special
with Roberta, Jess, and my other subs have been just that. I have never been in
a position where I wanted to combine the two things before now,” he said as I stared
at him, my heart warming instantly at the admission, and I wanted to know more
about why he’d become a Dom.

“What
got you started?” I asked as he smiled. “I met Zac. He was investing in a
project I was working on and we were chatting casually. I can’t even remember
how it came about, but he said he wasn’t sure which circles I moved in, but I
should definitely try his club, that I’d like it.”

“Wow,
that’s a brave thing to say in polite company,” I said as he laughed.

“Yeah
I know. Discretion is paramount in this lifestyle and Zac knows that more than
anyone. He just assumed I was a Dom without question, it never crossed his mind
that I wasn’t. When I started to ask questions it became clear what he was
talking about and I was curious. He was really apologetic. It was pretty
funny,” he said as I laughed.

“When
I learned that there were women who were willing and eager to submit sexually,
it was like a light bulb moment. I wasn’t happy with Roberta, Jess, there was
always something missing, not just with the sex but in every way. In many ways
our relationship was like an extension of our business partnership. I respected
her, but romantically, on my part anyway, it was always lacking. Some of our
business is so deeply entrenched that it was difficult to end it and I put it
off. She wasn’t demanding of my time and her expectations were low. I decided I
wanted out and then the pregnancy thing complicated things a whole lot further.
Tyler and Roman were always satisfied picking girls up – doing the whole fuck
‘em and forget ‘em routine. So was Charlie until he met Scarlett and I’m
guessing he’s back to that now, but I was never fulfilled; not even close. When
I joined the club I discovered why.”

I
was eager to know more about Scarlett, but even keener to find out as much as I
could about Lucas while he was being uncharacteristically open.

“So
you found that fulfilment at the club?” I asked as a sudden stab of jealousy
pierced my gut and I wasn’t sure why. It seemed like the thought of Lucas being
with anyone, ever, gripped with me envy. It was crazy and illogical, flashing
through me and I knew it was written on my face as Lucas watched me closely.

“More
than been blown off by some gold-digging stranger with an easy mouth, but true
fulfilment I’m only just beginning to understand,” he smiled, cupping my face
and bringing his full soft lips to mine as my heart somersaulted in my chest.

“Me?”
I asked as he nodded seriously, gazing into my eyes.

“Yeah,
it’s a freaky fucking thing. One minute I want to debase you, then I want to
date you,” he chuckled as I grinned broadly, wanting to somersault around the
room and trying to rein in my surging joy. I was trying to hold something back,
but every cell in my brain was screaming this was what I wanted. Even the green
eyed monster was now firmly back in its ugly cage.

“So
maybe you’re not untouchable then,” I smiled as he threw me a puzzled frown,
pulling me even closer.

“How do you mean?”

“Chas
has this theory about the guys she tries to land because they’re smokin’ hot,
loaded and unobtainable. She figures it’s better to get one of those kinds of
men to commit because they don’t date everyone they meet. If they do, it means
you’re special. You get the picture,” I said, thinking my explanation was
falling short, but he nodded knowingly.

“She
wants a successful husband who isn’t going to leave her stranded in poverty
with a kid. She isn’t shallow, just determined not to be like me or my mother,”
I said as he frowned, stroking my hair.
