CHAPTER TWELVE

4:37

4:41

4:49…Samantha should be leaving soon…

A knock on the door made me straighten my shoulders. Pen
in hand, I picked up a folder with spreadsheets in it. Prepared,
I spoke up, “Come in.”

“Hey.” It was Samantha, bag in hand, ready to go get her
hair done. She was invited to go with Marcus to Alexander’s
fund-raiser tonight. “You’re not going to be here long, right?

The party starts at eight, and I hope to God you’re not going
looking like that.”

“Ha-ha, very funny.” I smiled sarcastically, not thinking that
my disheveled self was all that bad. “I’m not going tonight. I really
have tons to do and don’t feel like talking shop to a bunch of
billionaires. But have a good time. Tell me all about it tomorrow.

I’ll be sleeping till noon, so don’t call before then.”

I ached. I hadn’t seen or heard from Alexander since the kiss,
and the image of that moment was all I could see for the last two
days. He had said he didn’t want me to hide from him, but it was
he who was hiding. He must have realized how crazy it had been,
all the things he said, and now regretted it.

How would he look me in the face and say, “Hey, forget
what I said to you the other day. It was just my dick talking” or
something to that effect?

Samantha said, “Come on, Eva, come. Marcus and I really
want you to be there, and I’m sure Al—”

I gave her a nasty look, and my words were worse. “Sam, do
me a favor. Stop with this shit. You are not my mother or my
guardian, so please, you live your life, and I’ll live mine. Have a
great night. And on second thought, don’t fill me in tomorrow.

All this talk bores me.”

I had to divert my eyes back down to the papers. Samantha,
obviously hurt, turned her back and left me alone with my
work yet again.

You bitch! She was just being a good friend. Fuck, I didn’t mean
to upset Samantha, but why is she so hung up on me and—oh God,
Alexander. His name shoots through me.

My fingers shot to my lips. Closing my eyes and passing my
fingers softly over my lips as they parted, I felt him, I tasted his
tongue on me, and I wanted it again.

He is so right. It could be so good.

A loud knock on the office door jolted my thoughts. I had
forgotten where I was and what I was doing. Swallowing the saliva
that was in my mouth, I could still taste him. Clearing my
throat, I could barely speak for fear of moaning. “C…Come in.”

I peered ahead as the door came open, and behind it, I first
saw strands of fine gray hair. My eyebrows arched, as I wondered
who it was.

“Ms.…Eva? My apologies, Miss. Alexander asked that I
drop this note to you before the festivities begin. I would gladly
take you to your home to prepare, and then I could drop you
at the event on my way home. Shall I wait for you at the car?”

Brant spoke so fast, I hadn’t had a chance to even say hello
or tell him that I wasn’t going. Was I? Standing, I approached
him and reached out to shake his one hand. In the other he held
a note, which he held out to me.

“Brant, it’s so nice to see you. I, um, I don’t think I will…”

Unfolding the neatly written note, I began reading, forgetting
I was in the middle of speaking to Brant.

Fixed his eyes upon her, as the saint of his deepest devotion;
Happy was he who might touch her hand or the hem of her
garment!

Many a suitor came to her door, by the darkness befriended,
And as he knocked and waited to hear the sound of her
footsteps,

Knew not which beat the louder, his heart or the knocker of
iron

I await you here, sweet ………

I won’t speak the name until I have earned the right to do so
But please

Give me the chance to earn it!

I stepped back and leaned against the chair that was luckily
behind me, or I would have fallen. I was becoming unglued by
him and didn’t know how to stay in my own. I had always been
so full of strength and will. Where was it all now?

“Miss, are you all right? Do you need a moment?” Brant
looked worried.

The poor guy must think I am a disaster. The last two times he
had been around me, I had been falling apart.

“No, no. Thank you, Brant. I am fine. Just haven’t eaten
lunch today. Ah, thank you for the offer, but I have brought
my things and will be coming along to the event later on in the
evening. But thank you.” I smiled faintly at Brant, hoping he
would believe it. I saw his sincere smile, and thought, It worked.

“All right, Miss, as you wish. And I am glad you will be
attending, as will Alexander. I shall fetch you around seven
thirty. Till then, Miss.”

Brant left as he came, and without warning, I realized I was
going to the party.

“Shit! What the hell am I going to wear? Ugh, had I not
been such a bitch, Samantha would be perfect right now!”

Throwing myself into the seat of the chair, my head fell forward
into my hands. I tried to figure out what to do next.

“Had I not loved you so much, I would have taken that
bitchy attitude of yours and left you here alone, to fend for
yourself!” Ah, Samantha was in front of me, waiting for an
apology, waiting to be asked to help.

“Samantha, you didn’t leave. I’m so sorry. I don’t know
what’s gotten into me. Please say you forgive me, yet again?” I
sat still, and then I grabbed Samantha’s hands and held them
tightly.

“Yeah, yeah. Don’t I always forgive you? And anyway, just
so you know, your problem is not figuring out what’s gotten
into you, it’s figuring out how to get him into you. Then you’ll
be fine, trust me!”

Jumping to my feet, I threw my arms around Samantha.

“Thank you, thank you. What do I wear? I have to look…you
know…God I can’t do this. I am not that girl! I don’t dress for
men unless it’s lingerie that I plan on ripping off. I don’t know
how to be the waiting damsel.”

She knew I was hopeless, and I did not know how to do
hopeless.

“Eva, you don’t have to be the damsel. If he’s pining for you
now, wait till he gets a look at the whole package! You always
look hot, and tonight will be no different. Just stop pretending
that you aren’t interested and try being you but with him. It’s so
crazy…it just may work.”

Samantha shook her head with a giggle, and we laughed it
off.

“Come on, let’s run up to Saks and find you something that
will rip off easily.” Grabbing our bags, we ran off to Saks Fifth
Avenue with a credit card and a prayer.

The town car pulled up in front of Alexander’s building.

It was a sight, right by Central Park, towering over the nearby
buildings, paned with glass from the bottom up.

He must have some view, I thought.

Brant got out of the driver’s seat and went to open my door.

“Miss,” he said, holding his hand out to help me out of the
car. “If I may be so bold, Miss, you look like a goddess this
evening!”

I simply smiled, completely embarrassed. I always dressed
to impress, but I had never intended it for one specific person.

The waiting to see him, to know if he liked how I looked, was
unbearable.

Brant walked me through. “Oh, no, Miss. This way please.

We’ll go through the private entrance.”

I wanted to giggle, thinking he was joking, but as he led
me through another door, I realized he wasn’t, and even better,
when he pressed P for penthouse, I became, yet again,
speechless.

“Right this way, Miss. I’ll take your things to Alexander’s
private closet so that you don’t have to go through coat check.”

I couldn’t understand. Why the special treatment? Had he
told Brant what had happened, everything? Turning to look
for Brant, I discovered he was already down the hall with my
clutch and jacket.

I found myself alone, facing two long hallways. The one on
the left where Brant had gone obviously led to the “private”

rooms. To the right was a long hallway, with dim lights leading
the way down toward the party, or so I assumed. The sounds of
lots of voices laughing and talking fast could be heard coming
from that hallway. Music played through all the voices, and
glasses and silverware clinked.

I walked slowly, taking notice of the sculptures and art that
hung on the walls. They were all beautiful but didn’t seem to
fit what little I knew about Alexander. I didn’t think that landscapes
would be his style. Then again, I barely knew him.

I wished I had come with Samantha. My nerves were high. I
felt like I was making a grand entrance and everyone would be
staring at me like in some movie. Had I come with Samantha
and Marcus, I would have been the third wheel, but at least I
wouldn’t be walking in alone.

Approaching the corner of the hallway, I noticed a fulllength
mirror. First I was taken by the beauty in the detail and
design of the carved distressed wooden mirror itself, and then
I realized I could give myself a last glance before making my
presence known. Smoothing the silk dress and turning to the
side to check all the angles, I was fully satisfied, still uneasy but
comfortable in how good I looked.

Sam had helped pick out a silk champagne-colored halter
dress that had a heart neckline and a very low, revealing back. It
was fitted but not overly tight, tailored to my figure and showing
every curve. The Swarovski heels glistened as the light hit them.

Standing an extra five inches high always made me feel more
beautiful, and the dress brought the beauty to a whole other level.

Taking a deep breath, I was about to round the corner, when
Alexander found me.

“My God, you are a vision in gold. And so little material;
it could easily slip off of you without hassle from what I see.”

He was doing it again, trying to embarrass me. But not
tonight. I was in full form tonight. “Firstly, it’s champagne, not
gold. And second, anyone who knows how to handle themselves
could easily get in and out of me without getting so much as a
wrinkle on this dress. But, you have a ways to go to be that
talented.”

He leaned against the wall, dapper in his tuxedo, and he
devoured me with his eyes.

Seeing his interest in my banter, I continued, “I have to say,
this is a gorgeous mirror. Come take a look; stand behind me.”

He positioned himself directly behind me, but instead of
looking at the mirror, he looked down at my breasts, at my nipples
poking through the silk.

“I said look at the mirror, Mr. Mason!” And his eyes peered
at my reflection. “Now, isn’t this a grand mirror. It’s very large.

I could definitely see myself fucking you in front of this mirror!”

And that got his attention!

He stood dumbfounded. I turned to him and grabbed his
cock with one hand and pressed him back hard onto the wall.

“You look flushed, Mr. Mason. Want to watch me get to my
knees right here and right now? You can watch me suck you off
and clean you up. How about it?”

He was for the first time at a loss for words, and I felt great
about it. The fluster of his expressions and the twitching and
hardening of his erection were like trophies to my ego.

“Not now. We can’t do this not now, oh God…” he let out
in a begging moan as I kissed his cock over his pants and fisted
his balls tightly. “You have to stop, I have…uhh…”

I loved his pleading. It made me more determined to take
his dick in my mouth and make him squirm before I let him
release.
