  1. Place all ingredients in a spice grinder or old coffee grinder and pulse until ground into a coarse powder.

Pumpkin Pie Spice

When you’re whipping up a pumpkin pie for a holiday gathering or just like to have a blend of warm, autumnal spices on hand, this pumpkin pie spice is your answer. It’s great not only on winter squash (like pumpkin), but on top of coffee, apple slices, or on ice cream. It can even stand in as a healthy sugar substitute in some instances.

6 tablespoons black peppercorns

  1. Place the lemon zest on a baking sheet. Set in the oven on the lowest setting and leave until completely dried, about 1 hour. Cool completely. Grind with the peppercorns and salt in a food processor or spice mill until well mixed.
  2. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
