“Do it!” whispered Tobias who was suddenly by her side, “She has seen you and what you are. You can’t let her go now. You put our whole community and way of life at risk if you do.”

Catherine knew he was right and could never jeopardise her newfound life. So she lent forward and inserted her teeth into the girls neck and began to suck. Once she started she could not stop, as it was like a drug. The blood tasted so much better than out of a bag and she felt stronger with every mouthful. She sucked harder and harder until the flow slowed down and Catherine was completely satisfied. She remembered the advice not to leave any and continued to suck until not a drop was left. She dropped the body down and fell onto Tobias, feeling completely exhilarated.

  “Good?” he asked.

Catherine just nodded as whilst she felt so good, she was also consumed with an overwhelming feeling of guilt at the same time for taking this girl’s life.

“Wait here.” said Tobias as he picked up the corpse and fled with it.

Moments later he was back, holding Catherine in his arms and began to lick the leftover blood from her lips.

The moon shone brightly upon them and the excitement of taking her first life eventually began to kick in and turn her on. Tobias was proud of her kill and the two began to roll around on the embankment of the lake.

Howls could be heard that night from the woods which lasted for hours and the locals put it down to wolves which had stumbled into the area. Unbeknown to them it was the lovemaking of two very passionate vampires embracing their new found love for each other.

Chapter 8

The following evening Catherine was hunched over in pain with her stomach. Tobias was concerned and called for Mathias.

“Was the girl alive before she drank from her?” asked Mathias.

“Yes,” said Tobias.

“Did she finish every last drop?” asked Mathias.

“Yes,” said Tobias.

“Then this is very confusing, she should be thriving, not being sick. When did it start?” Mathias asked again, constantly quizzing Tobias over and over again.

“I told you,” said Tobias”, She was fine all last night and we slumbered today and then this evening she started with these cramps.”

“Well, that is too late to start with the drink, it should have happened immediately.”

Suddenly, Mathias face dropped and he gave Tobias a piercing look.

He ran to Catherine and slowly began to examine her and feel her stomach area where the pains had begun. In disbelief it dawned on him what was happening and he looked directly again at Tobias.

“I believe this may be your fault Tobias,” said Mathias.

Tobias sat outside the trailer now fully aware of the situation. He could not believe what was happening and so quickly.

Mathias joined him and although he was filled with memories of his daughter,  Jane he knew this was different and tried his best to put Tobias at ease.

“She has changed Tobias, she is strong enough to get through this. Nothing bad will happen don’t you worry.”

Tobias was grateful for Mathias’ kind words under the circumstances, but he felt uneasy about the whole matter and worried it would bring no good.

“But Mathias, couples who have mated for a couple of hundreds of years never had this happen to them. How can this happen so quickly with us, it just doesn’t make sense.” said Tobias.

“I am not entirely sure” Mathias replied “But we are all individual and unique in our own way. Catherine has shown her individuality from the start. Early to start the transition, more powerful and quickly than anyone I have known before and one of the quickest I have known to mate. Even before she had fully changed. Now this.

Maybe this is just her thing Tobias. Please do not worry. “

Tobias was grateful for Mathias’ understanding and attempt to put him at ease, but he could not help but feel responsible and hoped that he had not put Catherine in any danger.

The two men sat looking across their site when a figure walked towards them.

“Oh so the wanderer returns,” yelled Mathias.

“Come and join us, it’s been a while since we have seen you. Glad you managed to find us again.”

“Just in time actually,” smiled Mathias, “We are due a celebration soon, Tobias here and my granddaughter Catherine are expecting a baby.”

Joseph put his bags on the floor and a huge smile erupted across his face.

Mary had packed her bags and began her trail across the country to find the circus.

She was heading towards the mountains up north as this seemed to be where the trail led. She kept her eyes peeled for any news reports regarding missing people or a hint there was a travelling circus in town.

All Mary could think about was getting to the circus before Samuel and warning

Mathias that he was on the hunt for Catherine and reclaim what he considered his.

Samuel was a selfish creature and only thought about himself. Mary could never forget what he did to her daughter and was determine she would not let him get anywhere near her granddaughter if it was the last thing she did.

“A baby,” said Joseph, “What wonderful news. A new addition to our little Community.”

Joseph’s smile went from cheek to cheek. He thought to himself about his timely arrival and how he could not wait until he told Samuel about this and where he had found them. Joseph knew Samuel would reward him greatly.

“I may not be here to meet the new one, however as this is just a flying visit. You know how I like to travel, Mathias. I just thought I would drop by and say hello to my old companions,” smirked Joseph.

“Well you are always welcome,” said Mathias, “It is always good to a see a friend.

You are welcome anytime my friend, unlike some people. Have you by any chance stumbled across Samuel upon your travels?”

“No,” Joseph lied “But I am sure you will see him soon. Sooner than you expect I doubt. Don’t you be worrying about him Mathias.”

Tobias looked on at the two men talking. He was not particularly familiarised with Joseph having only met him a few times. Joseph used to be with the circus regularly before he “joined” their community but then took to doing his own thing. Joseph would go travelling for months maybe even years on end before making a flying visit to say hello to his old companions. Tobias however never felt entirely comfortable in

Joseph’s presence but put it down to the fact that he did not know him as well as the rest of the community. Something niggled inside him however that he could not put his finger on. Irrespective of his feelings Tobias smiled warmly at Joseph and welcomed him back into the community as well as he could. Mathias seemed to trust

Joseph and that was good enough for him. Mathias was a very loyal friend and always tried his hardest to help fellow vampires and deal with any worry or concerns. If

Mathias trusted this man then Tobias was sure he could too.

Catherine, deciding to take some air, was keen to please and smiled with pleasure and greeted Joseph with kind sincerity. Both Tobias and Mathias were so proud of how she had adapted and managed to control her killer instincts. Most new vampires have to be reined in to stop them going on a killing spree and leaving behind a blood bath of carnage where ever they went. Catherine, however, took just what she needed and no more.

Mathias put this down to her immediate mating with Tobias. Not everyone was so lucky. Joseph who was coming up to his 300
th
year had still not mated. Most do not last that long, but Catherine and Tobias relationship was actually unusual to happen so quickly.

Mathias was happy for his granddaughter, however, knowing Tobias to be a good character who would endeavour to protect her. Unlike Samuel with his own daughter whose selfish and irresponsible actions had led to her death.

Mathias stood up and led Joseph away to show him where he could settle during his stay with the circus, leaving Catherine and Tobias alone.

Catherine lay back on Tobias’s lap and looked up into his amazing eyes. She truly adored Tobias and could not believe she had met someone so amazing. Her feelings were reciprocated as Tobias looked at her in return and let his hand slide to her stomach. He felt her growing stomach at was alarmed at how quickly their unborn child was growing. He felt so protective of Catherine which was now enhanced further as he had the added responsibility of the child too. A responsibility he wanted to have and was prepared to go to great lengths to protect.

Joseph lay down his bags in the trailer Mathias had given him and began to rifle through them. He was delighted he had not only found the circus so quickly but the fact Catherine was there and with child. An extra bonus for Samuel. Vampire pregnancies were a rare occurrence indeed and certainly something Samuel would want. For years now Samuel had been trying to create a new community of his own and was constantly after new additions. Catherine, being part of Samuel, was wanted very much to join them and Joseph had offered his services to help get her.

Joseph sat back and recollected the promises that Samuel had made to him. If he could bring back Catherine or help assist in discovering her whereabouts then Samuel had promised to make him a high leader of the new community. He would have great powers and control over the members and presented with luxury feeds.

Josephs thirst burst at the thought of the warm red blood of a young virgin. The best blood around. Once he was a leader he would have as much as he wanted and when he wanted. He would have slaves and brides in abundance. The power was all he could think about and finally showing these stupid humans who were boss. Mathias was a fool for treating humans with kid gloves and only taking what was needed.

They had powers for a reason, powers that the humans stood no chance against beating so why should they hide away. Did humans hide away from their food source in shame every time they killed a sheep or a chicken? No they did not. Samuel had founded the idea of a new community prepared to take over and show the humans their place and Joseph was certain that he wanted to be a part of it.   Samuel wanted this community to be strong and large and he wanted it to be his. This would mean having his daughter in it and Joseph was prepared to help get her if it meant he had a place in the hierarchy of this new community.

Plans had to be put in place now to get Catherine back. He could not possibly take her on his own on account of Tobias constantly being at her side, so Joseph decided the best thing to do would be to send a message to Samuel informing him of the circus’s current location then together they could work out how to take Catherine unwittingly from Tobias and Mathias.

Joseph fetched some paper and decided he would write a note in case his calls were overheard or intercepted.

Samuel,

Head for the mountains north of you current abode. Here you will find what you are looking for.

I am also greatly pleased to inform you of other news. She is with child. I await your instruction and assistance.

Joseph

Joseph folded the paper up and smiled at his good fortune. Soon he was to become a vampire of substance. One to be looked up to and have the power he always wanted.

Chapter 9

Mary sat on the train urging it to go faster and faster. She shouted at herself in annoyance that she had not found a way to contact the circus. They should have put arrangements in hand whereby she could call if need be in case of an emergency. Now she was sat there, useless, whilst her precious granddaughter was at great harm. Mary had to get to the circus before Samuel to warn them that he wanted Catherine and they must hide and protect her from him before he caused her great harm. She had no idea how she would achieve this, but she knew that only over her dead body would Samuel take Catherine. Mary was always left with a huge sense of guilt since her own daughter’s passing and felt a failure that she could not do more to protect her, so felt determined that nature would not repeat itself and certainly not by the same man.
